We recently connected with Lily Yaus and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
It all falls back into Sophomore Year of High School. A Student at Seminole High Schools PSI Program, the business and design integrated school devoted for innovative students. In Photography class, we had an assignment for each individual student. The task included students going around the campus with our cameras, and capture a dull object/area. To me, this seemed

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Going back to the eyes of my 8 year old self, I always admired my dad’s camera thus leading my passion for photography. From going around the house taking photos of random objects that lie in the open, to friends and family, and becoming involved in my school’s curriculum I grew love for photography. After receiving my Sony Camera, and using all of its potential I was gifted my Nikon Zfc. Starting my own business never crossed my mind, instead I would work with my best friends on cinematic films, and photoshoots in our town of Sanford. After countless posts, we received much attention from fellow friends. Working with my friends showed me the way into getting involved and putting myself out there. This is when I decided after long conversations with friends, I’d seek to publish my very own photos. In the beginning, I did small shoots with my cousin and friends shared to Instagram. My potential and passion blossomed and started my very own business as LilyYausPhotos began. Starting this business has brought me new opportunities and challenges I yet inspire to experience as my journey continues. Photography has brought out a spark into my eyes, and putting myself out there. My mission was to show creativity and tell truths of my community through cinematic editing. I know cinematic was one of my favorite styles but I knew professional photography would enhance my work in learning about the process. I inspire to grow my business and continue to share stories, art, and reveal the hidden truths that make our world. Along with the style of editing, I know will grow futher.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a photographer, the most rewarding experience is meeting new people and hearing their stories. Photographing has given me the opportunity to meet amazing people, to hear their stories, and to form meaningful connections. This to me has ultimately felt like a reward and motivation throughout my journey so far. The beginning of my business from the bottom was a struggle. The process of finding people to shoot with and expanding my portfolio would take time. I started off slow by taking portraits of my family members, and asking friends for free shoots. In the following months, I slowly met people in my community. People who I had yet to learn more about and gain connections and memories. The most rewarding part of their connection is the support I gain, and their love to ask for more shoots. It has not only allowed me to become better but also built a bigger portfolio and creative journey that I want to further continue in my photography career.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
By putting myself out there, my ultimate goal is to use my photography to make a positive impact on people and expand my portfolio. Growing up, I’ve always been shy about using my voice or applying myself. My photography journey has taught me not only to apply myself, but also to seek out new opportunities. Since then, I have had many inspiring clients that have brought me a great deal of creativity. By telling stories, many photographers have developed a sense of style. As a photographer, I believe in opening more doors to capture more stories that aren’t limited to specific styles. This has pushed me more than ever to discover what is in my community and how I can turn it into something different. It’s become evident to me that this goal comes with purpose and dedication along with it. Putting in time and effort to input a piece of art to add to a series of collections can ultimately be hard with balancing a day to day schedule. Ultimately, my goal has continued to drive further into this creative and fun journey and seeking growth.
