We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eddie King. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eddie below.
Eddie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The making of the LP: Breaking Free

Eddie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Eddie King: Singer/Songwriter, Guitarist, Artist, Actor
How did you get started playing? What was the moment it clicked and you knew you wanted to play guitar full time?
I started playing guitar when I was seventeen. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale Fl at the time. Every full moon a group of acoustic guitar players met on the north end of the beach, up by the “Lauderlade by the sea” area. We would sit in the round and take turns playing or playing along with any of the group and watch the moon rise out of the water. One particular night Jimmy Buffet came walking up and sat in with the group. I didn’t know who he was then as I had just moved there from Pennsylvania. I was playing along with him on his songs and after a bit, he asked me how long I had been playing. I told him six months. He was shocked and said, “Kid you keep playing like this you’re gonna be a phenomenal guitar player when you’re older.” After Jimmy left my friends in the group were tripping, “Dude, Buffett said you were good!” So, that was the nod I needed to stay with the guitar’ and the rest is history.
What creative works are you involved with now?
Well, I just dropped two songs and four videos since November.
That’s a relatively short time is it not?
(Laughs) It would seem so. I’ve always been someone else’s guitar player. I seem to attract time wasters or did for several years. Following someone else’s dream and not your own. So, I decided to break free.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Oh boy, investing too much time in individuals who are not on the same path/vision as yourself. Don’t let yourself be fooled into thinking everyone around you has your best interest in mind. More often than not they have their own interests as the goal and you’re just being used or manipulated. When you see the goal moving from point to point. You have to ask yourself do I ride this out or not? Don’t ride it out. Move on!
The backstory?
Never undervalue your self-worth. I’ve spent a decade believing in others when it was really in me the whole time. You get hangers-on, they see your talent and they want that “gift” you have, but they don’t have themselves. So they manipulate and chip away at your self-worth to the point where you doubt yourself and believe that you’re not as good as you are. In this way, they get a free ride on your ability. So, I broke free…
Q:
Isn’t your upcoming LP called Breaking Free?
ans: Yes
reply: Interesting

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Making that connection with the audience, listener, or viewer. When someone comes to me and says, “Oh I just heard your song or I just saw your video and I so get it! Or OMG I thought I was the only one that felt that way.” Mission accomplished!
