We recently connected with Lexx Author and have shared our conversation below.
Lexx, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
There are various meanings for what a legacy is. There is the meaning of the generational wealth left behind and there is the long-lasting impact from particular actions/events. I want to be know for the impact that I have left behind. For the passion I have to not only be myself, but excel in my crafts. People have grown to know me as Lexx Author from my writings and being a female Dj. I want people to remember the creativity behind all of my works. Within writing, creative directing and Dj. All of these aspects have deeper meanings to what goes on within them individually. The day of my passing I want everyone to understand that I didn’t leave anything behind and I never said the words “I wish I did..” in the mist of regret and reminisce. I want them to know that I am strong, vulnerable, and passionate. Remember my big heart and stern attitude on ensuring tasks are completed. I want them to go back into my past works of my dj mixes, poems, short stories, creative directing photo/video shoots, and all the impacts I made on other’s lives within their business. By extending my services of copywriting, ghostwriting, and etc. I want the beauty of my work to be their safe haven for when they miss me and just need a little moment of remembering the person that I was. I want them to feel admiration for the relations that we shared. Whether we worked together or we were great friends that supported one another. Can’t forget about my family and the love we share with one another as well. I want my children to see that I made myself my own business and did what I loved. Never backing down to the hardships of being your own business. Thriving through all the bad and good moments of being alive. Giving everyone I know the courage to follow not only thier hearts but their minds as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My brand is Lexx Author and I am my own brand. My name is Alexis Andrews, I am a writer, creative director, and Dj. As a writer I provide services within copywriting, ghostwriting, content and blogging. Helping their marketing techniques and gain the attraction needed from the targeted audience. Coaching and enhancing the CTAs (call to actions). As well as ensuring all the copy is original content. These services apply to businesses and individuals looking to enhance either their own business or internet presence through their creative works. I personally write poetry, short stories and novels.
As a creative director I provide service for photoshoots, video shoots, short films, and social media content. This is where I help the customer create the creative content and bring it to life. Creating templates, organizing each person the will be working for the project. From the models, make-up artist, and camera crew. I help during the production/filming by keeping the schedule on track. Ensuring all the looks and scenes are shot. Helping out with wardrobe malfunctions. During photo shoots I help with poses, emotions that need to be convey on camera, and finding the little details the cameraman might miss that could potentially ruin the shot.
As a Dj I work for concerts, networking events, weddings, proms, birthdays, and other various events. Whenever there is a Dj in need I can work the event. I create mixes that are on YouTube and mashups for various film works. I also am working on the producer and song writer realm within music. To work closely with artist on their projects and to enhance my own Dj sets when I perform live. This also gives me another avenue within song writing to continue to do writing which is my first love.
I got into creating my own brand by realizing all of my talents with the love for writing and music. Seeing all the possibilities and opportunities that fit in with my crafts. Seeing that there is ways that I can be a mother to my children and work for myself. Staying open to criticism and optimistic is the core to how I move within life.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My answer will relate to many because once I became a mother I had to pivot. Before I became a mother I was working various jobs as a waitress. Did a few writing gigs by working with friends that had clothing companies, and in photography. I also worked a little with helping film companies create skits for potential commercials for small businesses. I was introduced to Dj by a friend who I asked to teach me and just played around with a board at home. My bank account was alright and my bills were paid and that was all good for me. I mean, I only had to worry about me. Once I became a mother I realized I not only had a life to provide for but I had a life I needed to inspire to be greater than me. In whatever way my child wanted to be. I didn’t want them to just live life passively as I was. Basically wasting my talents and just thinking “one day my life will change.” Not taking any action to make my life any different.
I never had the confidence to just take the leap of faith or the quantum leap to make the real change. Now the change definitely didn’t happen over night. There were a lot of habits to break and create. As well as becoming a student of life and taking the time to understand what my true north is. By understanding that it is perfectly fine to not know everything and that always learning something is very fruitful. I gained a passion and purpose to push forward. Learn from mistakes and enhance avenues that worked.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
People believe that because I am good with putting words down onto a page, or blending songs together. That I don’t have a struggle with being creative. There is still the constant battle to be original and to get over the fear of “will they laugh at my art.” Being an artist is a level of vulnerability that is not for the weak. There are moments where you put your heart and soul into a project. For other’s to not even bat an eye in awe. Then there are times where you feel you hardly put any effort into it. Or it was one of the ones where you just had to ‘let go and let God’. Where people will see it as your best works. Everything is how you view it. If you have a passion to be creative find what fits your creativity. Just because it might not come as easy to you as you think it came for others. Does not mean you can’t still achieve within that field. Stay focused and most importantly stay happy through the process. Do not lose yourself that is the key ingredient to being a creative. It is YOU!
