We recently connected with Aquil Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Aquil, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Honestly, I truly care about the music first and foremost. My creativity, My message, and overall sound that I am trying to portrait. I don’t even look towards being the biggest artist in the world, I am more focused on being an influence to the world around me. God has blessed me with the ability to articulate myself and being able to say what/how I am feeling through music; Melody and words is truly a blessing. I just want to use what God has given me in the most positive way, I also want people to know that I am human and I go through the same everyday things that others go through.

Aquil, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a creative from Long Island New York. I do not like to really say I am just a Singer/Songwriter because I feel it just boxes me in to a degree. I love to be creative. to see how I can grow overall in all aspects of my life and you know Art imitates life so it comes out musically as well. I really have been writing professionally now for like 5 years. I got my first TV placements in 2019 writing for Viacom( had songs on BET, MTV, VH1, Etc)
I soon got a chance to write for others and it just kept blossoming into other opportunities and meeting new people along the way.
I wasn’t really into putting out my own music until about a year ago, because like I said previously, I am truly more than just a writer, and I want to do my part in making sure others know they do not have to be the biggest in the world to do what they love and have been blessed with to do.
I am most proud of my mindset as a creative. I just want people to feel, for I think not many get caught up in that because maybe they are afraid of tarnishing their image with the public, or they do not want to be so venerable. I don’t care about any of that because music is therapy for me in a way. My ability to say how I am feeling, getting it out in the ways I am able to, I am happy and blessed to be able to do so.
So if you listen to me, Aquil J, as the artist, or the writer, or producer, I really just appreciate it.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I won’t say that it is a strategy, but it has worked that people know that I am not trying to be something I am not. Everyone knows that I am really a creative and the only thing I take super serious when it comes to this is my craft. I want to be the best that I can be, so I am always trying new things to try and get to that. I think being my most authentic self and being down to earth about it really helps.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn that not everyone has your best interest in mind. I have just been a part of things where you are only as good as what you can provide at that time. Feeling dispensable is not a good feeling, especially if you don’t treat anyone like that to begin with. I have learned to really look for the people who are more like minded as you, for it makes for an even deeper connection and better rapport which comes across more in the work done. It is a blessing to work with people who view you the way you view them and no strings are attached. It’s a huge advantage, I wish I picked up on that earlier, but I do not wish my journey be any different because feeling disposable helped me become the creative I am today. I am a better person than I was 5 years ago and I am so grateful for it.
