We recently connected with Marquitta DaShae’ Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Marquitta, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If I could turn back time, I would have embraced my authentic self with greater conviction much earlier. For too long, I tried to conform, haunted by the belief that I was never enough, and that what I was creating lacked significance. I would have delved deeper into discovering my true purpose much sooner, stepping boldly into the identity and mission I was meant to pursue. This realization has now empowered me to no longer merely fit in but to stand out, anchored firmly in my authentic self and purpose.

Marquitta, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been on my entrepreneurial journey since 2014, but it wasn’t until 2019, amidst the pandemic and the loss of my job, that I truly professionalized my path as a coach. Driven by necessity and with a diverse array of skills from my academic and life experiences, I founded ‘Mommies Making Millions’—the premier community for faith-driven moms in the marketplace. This was swiftly followed by the creation of my ‘Mom to Millionaire’ platform. Coming from a background of financial insecurity, living paycheck to paycheck and relying on food stamps, and overcoming the label of being a high school dropout with only a GED, I knew God had much bigger plans for me. Today, I am dedicated to living out my purpose and calling, leveraging my innate gift for strategy, strategic planning, and execution. I am committed to empowering women, particularly women of faith, helping them find clarity in their life’s assignments and purpose.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Reflecting on the beginnings of my entrepreneurial journey, I must admit that my initial approach to funding my first boutique business was unconventional. I used my school refund grants and loans, along with income tax returns, as the primary financial resources for my business. At that time, my understanding of business funding, loans, or even basic accounting principles was quite limited. Despite this lack of knowledge in financial management and investing, I recognized an invaluable opportunity to invest in the development of my business. This funding not only supported the growth of my venture but also allowed me to pursue personal and professional development, setting the foundation for what my business has become today.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What truly helped me build my reputation within my market was my commitment to transparency. By allowing myself to remain humble throughout the journey, I was able to genuinely connect with my target audience. This authenticity fostered trust and cultivated a strong sense of community among the women and mothers I serve. It has been incredibly rewarding to hear so many of them share how inspiring they find my journey, or how much they relate to my story. In all of this, my aim is to let God receive the glory through my actions and the impact of my work.
