We caught up with the brilliant and insightful 8Mile Slik a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
8Mile, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I heard Run DMC. The swag the confidence the attention to detail to the culture I was ready after hearing them
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a strong gospel influence in my younger years so music is always been a part of me. My dad was a gospel singer and recording artist. My oldest sisters and brothers could sing but not me I didn’t get that. My earlier years in school I was a creative writing student so hip hop came naturally not to mention the breakdance and the girls love that. As I got older I ran into like-minded individuals so I’ve been in a couple of groups throughout my years. I’ve toured and open for a lot of major artist and I’ve frequent the smaller venues also. During COVID a couple friends and I visited a homie from Detroit living in Ohio and Dalladdacorp came from that meeting. I’ve been recording and owning a studio most of my life so I’ve always produced music. I’m a student of all music I’ve record for rock artist, gospel rnb spoken word and of coarse hiphop. I found out thru my family tree that my great great uncle was ” charlie Patton” the father of the Mississippi blues so I dedicated two albums to the blues movement ” Mississippi Delta 1&2″. It’s sumthing about them church organs and guitars that gets my mind working. In 2019 I started 8asslineMusik and I’ve released close to 8-10 projects. I got a few I’m touching up now, countless videos . I’m a member of the Dalladdacorp, Bloozebruthaz and joint projects with Tim Black. As a younger artist I wanted to be signed to a major label but as I’ve grown I’ve only wanted to produce record and put out music with people who I value. Dalladdacorp is a umbrella company so we have artists as far as New Orleans Newark New Jersey Youngstown Ohio Detroit Atlanta Florida and as we speak in we’re entertaining artists from other areas to build this conglomerate
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think taking an idea from start to finish. Music is never been about money to me it’s always been a creative expression a way for me to do self therapy. I’ve worked and met artist all over the world from sharing my music. This Dalladdacorp venture has been one of my defining music moments. From big stage to hole in the walls they all get the same show from me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My music will be here long after I’m gone. If u wanna kno anything about me the music will tell the story. From losing love 1 to my raw wordplay to my friends frienimes , wants needs and what I value and stand for. It’s the windows to my soul the lesson loses the victories. The rights the wrongs and indifferent, political point of views, culture the attention to detail the ghetto commentary. The younger me the father the man the husband I’m am 50 yrs of Detroit hiphop period
