Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie and Christine Reilly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie and Christine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
We inquired about doing our local farmers market and we asked if we could sell ornaments that we handmake. The coordinator told us he is looking for someone with baked goods such as cupcakes and welsh cookies. The woman who usually sold Welsh cookies was leaving the market, so we told him we would give it a try! We used a family recipe for the Welsh cookies and they were a hit! We also decided for the first market to try our hand at chocolate dipped pretzels, we started by dipping the skinny rods…that is how Christine (my mom) came up with the clever name Skinny Dippers and our business was born! We did not expect it to take off like it did. We started at the famers market and now we do huge vendor events with thousands of patrons, weddings, birthday parties and more! Our most unique items that make us stand out is our oreos, we have over 40 different flavors and we come up with the ideas all on our own! Our chocolate dipped pretzels are also unique since we do not use plain chocolate melts…we add a secret ingredient to make ours extra sweet!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Skinny Dippers: Sweets and Treats is co-owned by my mom and I (Christine and Katie Reilly). We got into this business by just giving our local farmers market a try. We make plenty of different treats including but not limited to: chocolate dipped pretzels, oreos, chips, swedish fish, rice krispies, gummy bears, flavored nuts and flavored pretzels, peanut and cashew clusters and we also make various baked goods including breads, pies, cookies, bakes, and so much more! I think our prices are what sets us apart from other similar businesses, we try our best to keep our items as affordable as possible. Most people actually tell us we should raise our prices. You will not find any item at our stand that will cost more than $7.00. We are most proud of our recurring customers. We are so grateful at every event when we see a familiar face that showed up to support us. We would like potential clients/followers to know that every little bit of support means the world to us. We would not be able to do this if it wasnt for everyone who keeps ordering and keeps coming back. We really hope to open a store one day, it has become our dream and this business is what makes us happy every day!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We have used Facebook mainly and it has been great, it is easy for people to share your page and invite others to like it. That is where most of our posts are and where we see people respond the best.
We recently put a QR code on our business cards to take you right to the facebook page to make it even easier to find us!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for us has been going to local events. It really helps get our name out there more and we are able to provide samples and sell our products.
We have also found that when we offer gift baskets or boxes for holidays they are a very big hit and we get new clients who have either been gifted these items or a friend has purchased one and told them about it!
