We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Krizz’Tina Barrientos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Krizz’Tina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Flexibility and Determination. No matter what field I’ve found myself in, being able to adjust myself has always either helped me achieve my goals or fail so that I get another opportunity to try again; which is where determination comes into play. Of course there are a lot more factors that contribute to each individual person’s success, but this is what I know it has always come down to for me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Becoming a content creator was an opportunity afforded me by way of my clients, as a makeup artist, requesting educational tutorials. That love for teaching is what sets me apart in this field because I am open to sharing what others feel they need to succeed. Whether that is a product, tool or technique I know will work, my goal is always encouraging others to be confident.
What I provide for my clients as a content creator is access to the more creative and animated side of myself, including my wonderful audience. Creating media businesses and established brands can use to market the very same products I’m known to trust and often utilize is actually so much fun! My preferences are macro photography, short videos suitable for social media and features on my lifestyle vlogs.
I actually am really proud of what I’ve accomplished with my platforms–there’s so much that goes into it that isn’t seen–because I’ve overcome a lot in my personal life and haven’t given up. What I want to be known is that loving the community I’ve built and having that consistent support is the source of my drive. When you see me online, know that this is what I do and if you choose the same route, have fun!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
So I have stage three endometriosis–autoimmune disease of the female reproductive system–real destructive, painful stuff okay? I would have days when I felt like I was quite literally fading in and out of existence; it was hard not succumbing to my symptoms and wanting to be free from all of that suffering.
Now, though, I look back at my Youtube channel specifically and remember pushing through all of that to film videos about makeup brushes, technology I use to create my content and even reviewing products. Nobody does that if they don’t absolutely love what they do!
Creating content surrounding the subjects I am the most inspired by was my therapy, moments of peace and a couple of hours to literally forget that I was really enduring a lot.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that my value is not based on the amount of followers and likes that I have.
Just like everyone else, I went through phases where I would look to other creators who I admired and tear my work apart. Admittedly, it did absolutely nothing but prevent me from being creative and appreciating the community I was developing on each platform. That sort of thing makes a person really scatter-brained.
What helped was realizing that the same people I admired are in fact my peers. Why compare and compete when we can cheer each other on? After that, I began cherishing the positive impact my work could have on others, whether that is one person or many.
