We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sal Soriano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sal, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My music journey started in the latter part of my current age in life. I was always a big fan of music (multiple languages & genres). I started by trying to mimic artists that I enjoyed listening to. After trial and error, I realized that I needed more knowledge in the industry. I began to analyze artists and bands in every process. From studio time, recordings, track arts, interviews and stage performance. Meanwhile, I rented college text books to understand correct terminology, techniques, foundation, skills and even legal law that is corresponding to the industry. In my opinion, the only thing that could have sped up my learning would be to have started earlier in life. The most essential skill I have came across is knowledge. The more you know, the more you can do. Plain and simple. The two main obstacles that I have encountered would be the acceptance of new upcoming artists and the financial/time strain that every independent entity has to endure. Nothing can ever stop me from learning.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Sal Soriano (SSCHICAGOMUSIC LLC). I have been in the music industry; professionally for about 6 and a half years. I created my company about two and a half years ago. I am the CEO/President & main artist on this label. You can access all content via YouTube, Spotify, AppleMusic, Amazon and about 160 other streaming engines worldwide. Main social sites are Instagram and Facebook. My company offers live performances, features, cameos, studio services, photography, video & event planning. We are not limited to other projects, as we are growing as an entity every day. We also outsource resources if ever needed. I am most proud of my rapid growth in this industry. From radio, club, SiriusXM, and adult establishment plays. All the way to magazine interviews, live performances (headliners and openers for A & B list artists), videos, photoshoots, appearances and meet & greets. I have performed live in about 9 states, have had DJ’s spin my music in about 20 states and have had 37 gentlemen clubs feature my hits. I am an artist that literally started with nothing, but has done the exact opposite. I can pretty much guarantee that I can put any indie/talented/hard working artist in a great position for this industry. I started with a struggle with I wish for no individual. That is the reason I started my company. To help others in the same position in which I began in.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is from within. Everyone has it in different levels, categories and/or situations. I understood my own resilience as a young kid, Way before music or my business. As a child of immigrants, you never get what you want. At times, some necessities are considered as wants. To those that are less fortunate. I have bypassed any stereotype, assumption, neglect and belittling in my life. It was never easy, but that is the reason I am most proud of any and every single accomplishment in my life. No one can ever do it 100% alone. At one point, everyone needs assistance. That being said, I can confidently say that I have tried to do majority by myself. Whether in this specific industry or in life, generally.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect as an artist is always the end result. The general public doesn’t see the day to day effort and struggle of any music entity. People are only focused on end results, not the process. Personally, I have had projects that took me over a year for the full production. I have also had others that only took me about two weeks. Nonetheless, the positive reactions to any original product is always very rewarding!
