We recently connected with Jeneen Scirocco and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeneen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have always loved art from a very young age. It was my escape and passion even from elementary age. I was never an accomplished artist but I love all kinds of art, I love to draw , paint, crochet, wood working , multimedia , jewelry making and so much more and I have found I absolutely love more than anything is to encourage others to their artwork out there.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jeneen Scirocco and my husband and myself own a little art boutique in market Commons. We absolutely love sharing our craft with all who come into our shop. We also house many local artists as well. We love to hear their stories and we love all the different kinds of art and jewelry, we started this six years ago with our Art, my husband, our four daughters and myself and we met a young lady that did Art and she came into our shop and from then on we house about 45 local artist in our little shop we have vintage Clothing And Jewelry. We have handmade jewelry we have , resale clothing we have crochet we have leather making. We have all kinds of drawings and paintings mixed media art greeting cards and so much more. We also hold twice a year and artist social where we supply food, live music wine and all the artists get together and mingle and lovely customers come and we just encourage anyone to come out and meet the artist that are in our shop. We also like to feature artist every once in a while. We do consignment as well.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe when Covid hit the United States everything got shut down and I believe a lot of people started getting a little more creative and appreciating art and about three weeks in I decided I was gonna stay open just for a little not as many days and I noticed that people still wanted to have human interaction and they just loved Art and even if they came in to look it was wonderful to have interaction with people and was able to stay open through it all and I did not have to shut my door and I’m just so grateful for that and I’m so grateful that we’re able to still be open. We may not make a lot of money here, but we do have an amazing community of artists
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The way that the community can support local art is instead of going to the big box stores come to a local shop and buy something unique that isn’t anywhere else and when someone comes in here and buy something from one of the artist in the shop, it makes me so happy that they got something that will never be made again because everything in here is unique and Only made one. There is no mass production within the shop. It’s all original artwork.
