Hi JRoc, thanks for joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Taking vacations is necessary for business owners. I literally have to get away to refocus, regroup, come up with new ideas. You have to make time for yourself and continue to do the things you love to do. I love traveling. At least 3-4 days. a week or more away is way too much for me I feel like I’m neglecting my business. I know I’m not but I can’t be away that long if I do its rarely.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Long story short. I lost my mom at the early age of 10 years old; my father took care of my brother and I. I Moved to Dallas 20 years ago and continued my career at CitiMortgage. My dad became ill and needed 24 hr. care my brother and I took turns keeping him from ST. Louis to Dallas….Dad had another stroke I decided to move back to St. Louis and help take care of my dad whom I was very close too…..I wasn’t able to work because he needed 24 hr. care …after learning how to take care of him I decided to become an entrepreneur and promote parties and ended up creating a logo and decided to bet on myself and started my own clothing line that represents myself and the city of St. Louis which has been doing great. I also started a movement in University City Neighborhood to the world where I grew up that became the biggest school representation in St. Louis. I have been on Fox2News a few times, BET Awards, featured in a couple magazines, a few Stars have worn my clothing, and I have made the local magazine unfortunately dad passed last year, and I decided to stay here and continue to work on my clothing line in memory of my father to make him proud, in which is doing extremely well. I have my clothing line in 3 different locations. and on Billboards around St. Louis. I’m proud of how far I’ve come despite all of the personal family issues I dealt with.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding my business was with my own personal funds. I sold my clothing line at Pop up Shops, in bars, out of my trunk, the best way I could go as a new entrepreneur.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My clothing line became a big deal in St. Louis, I have a great support system and a lot of Support from friends, family and people whom I don’t know but customers that love my work. To walk in a facility and to see about 60% of people wearing my clothing is the best feeling in the world.
