We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheyenne Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheyenne below.
Cheyenne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I had the opportunity when I was young to explore many aspects of creativity. I managed to dabble in a bit of things such as cooking, stepping, wood shop and quilting. I started out doodling with only just a pen and paper and drawing just came natural ever since I was 12.
I wanted to learn and grow with my skills, explore all these techniques and expand my vision of the world then ever. After graduating from Brooklyn High School of the Arts, I knew art was my drive, my passion, something I wanted to build on in life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been an artist at heart ever since I was a child, growing up reading stories and illustrations always made me feel they were the loudest way to express yourself. I’ve dabbled with a lot of the art whether visual, music and theater. I currently do book illustrations, comics and graphic design while progressing in my master’s degree for visual development to work in film and animation.
As an illustrator and book publisher for Power In The Pen as well under my own name CosmicxAngel, I’m able to connect with my clients so their voice can be heard through my art. I consult with them through zoom to show the progress step by step in the journey in a way so we both understand each other creating a vision beyond expectations.
I’m still discovering a lot with my art and I always push to think outside the box and branch for something new and unique to express. My goal as an artist is to make the audience look at the world in a different perspective than what they see.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely just hearing the different aspects of how people react to the artwork, especially if it’s strongly. My goal is for my work to connect to the audience emotionally and make them think.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Well I believe everyone has a small creative part of themselves, but it depends on how you see it. Inventions, formulas, math are all different forms of creativity because you’re bringing things to life. That’s the beauty of creating in the first place. It’s what you choose to bring to life what will impact the world.
