Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rocky Vuong. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rocky , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Yes, I do take vacations, but I also make sure that my work is not hindered by them. I have an excellent team of experts who are amazing at their work. I trust them immensely and know that they are here to support and guide me in tough times. Also, when I feel the need for a vacation, I delegate my work to my teammates because I know it will be done without fail. Though I complete my side of work and keep a check on the business during my trips, it is good to enjoy the vacation with your loved ones without being worried about your company. The entrepreneurs who don’t go away on vacation, you guys are missing out on a lot! Grinding yourself day and night to make money is not the only way, and, well, making money is not the only thing in life. Go out, enjoy life, and explore this beautiful world while you still can. As for business, it can be continued tomorrow.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Picture this: a 22-year-old boy working in a call center and exploring the internet whenever he gets time—stumbled upon a Reddit post that was a step-by-step guide for opening a cleaning business from scratch. Nine years later, that company is one of the fastest-growing cleaning companies across Australia. Well, that boy is me, Rocky Vuong, who chose to take a leap of faith and dive into a cleaning business named Calibre Cleaning. We started operating in 2015, cleaning our first home in Melbourne. Slowly growing and expanding our business, we have 350 cleaning teams around the country and stand at a revenue of $3 million in 2024. We offer exceptional cleaning services to our clients, be it deep cleaning, end-of-lease cleaning, or a basic home clean. We have built our reputation as the most trustworthy and reliable cleaners and organizers across Australia, and we are working hard to deliver more to our customers.
I am so proud of my business and team for believing in me and taking the company to the heights of success. Starting from scratch to a million-dollar company, we have come a long way and still need to go further. I am so grateful to our customers. I understand that letting strangers into your house is not an easy task, but our clients trusted us enough and gave us a chance to show our dedication, meticulousness, and passion towards our work.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Keeping in touch with the customers is extremely important, as they are the means to our successful business. We are not just about offering a one-time service, we want to build relations with our customers and be available whenever they need us. For this, we promote personalized communication. See, whenever someone feels that they are being acknowledged, they instantly connect with us. It’s their names, their preferences, and their styles that matter, not just to them, but to us. It helps us customize our services according to the clients, which helps us deliver top-notch services every time. When our clients are satisfied with our services, it is obvious that they will refer us to their close ones. That means a lot to us, and hence, we provide a little discount to every referral that turns into a client. And, of course, the feedback! It is the backbone of any business. If you own a company, you must be open to every type of feedback. We welcome both appraisals and criticism because they let us know where we are lacking, what the wishes of our customers are, and where we can improve. It not only lets us stay connected with our clients but also be more flexible with the services we offer.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
A magnificent team of professionals with the same passion and zeal as me is what makes Calibre Cleaning stand out. I had a vision to be one of the most successful business owners, and my team supported me, held me in tough times, and backed me up with my idea. I owe it to my team and want to maintain this connection forever. I would love to advise in detail on the things I do to manage my team.
Communication – Good and smooth communication is the key to a successful and healthy relationship. You have any thoughts? Say it. You have any ideas? Say it. Any feedback? Say it. Unless people communicate freely, there is no way you can know what the real matter is, where you can grow, and how you can be better. Communication is the best way to explore new ideas and be approachable.
Recognition – People work wholeheartedly, passionately, and meticulously. Their hard work contributes to the success of my business and the fulfillment of my dreams. The little I can do for them is to give them the credit they deserve and the appreciation they need to boost their morale. See, everyone is working to be better in their field, so rewards and recognition every now and then help maintain a positive work culture.
Growth Opportunities – People need to feel that they are growing and moving forward in their careers. Training sessions, one-on-one development classes, or offering them new responsibilities can satisfy their needs to grow and fulfill their dream of a successful career.
A Balanced Work-Life Culture – It is so important to foster a balanced work-life culture because employees have their personal lives too and have the right to live them as passionately as their work lives. It is important to spend time with your loved ones and do things that bring you joy so as to maintain peace of mind and tranquility in your heart. This only results in better performance and outputs.
Some people might have other remarkable options for the betterment of their office culture. What truly matters is that, at the end of the day, it is important for your members to feel appreciated, supported, recognized, and motivated.
