We were lucky to catch up with Simone Finley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Simone thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing that someone has ever done for me? Actually, I’ve had a lot of kind things done for me by people who truly care about me. Late last year, I made the decision to quit working at one of my jobs to fully invest in my purpose. I had a trip planned to perform in San Francisco with my Improv troupe, and because I wasn’t working my second job, I was financially unable to buy not only my plane ticket, but also my stay at the hotel and money for food, etc. Setting my pride aside, I asked people to help me make it to my trip, and I received so much support from strangers, friends, and family members. I managed to raise enough money to pay for my trip overall and was able to perform in San Francisco at the Sketch Fest Comedy Festival. This was one of the most memorable moments I’ll never forget, and the support and belief that people showed me made me realize that this is my purpose.
Simone, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since elementary school, I’ve always had a passion for theater. I participated in talent shows, plays, and anything related to entertainment. When I reached high school, I initially focused on sports, but during my junior year, I transitioned to dedicating more time to theater. In college, I primarily took theater classes, which deepened my love for acting and entertaining. What I would like my followers, fans, and supporters to know about me, and what sets me apart from others, is that I am authentically myself. I genuinely enjoy showing up as my true self. I know who I am and I am not afraid to acknowledge my flaws. I am proud of myself and who I am becoming.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, I think the most rewarding thing about being an artist/creative is that I can make people feel good and make them laugh through my art. It’s so rewarding to hear that my funny videos, inspiring quotes, or even just my resilience itself can help someone or inspire them, making them feel good about themselves. I truly enjoy brightening someone’s day; it brightens mine too.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The story of how I built my current audience is that I consistently created content. However, what truly spiked my followers and the audience I’ve gained was when I posted a viral video of myself dancing and falling, but turning it into a humorous moment by breakdancing. Posting that video showed many people that I don’t take everything so seriously and that I can truly enjoy having fun and being myself. It just happened to be a funny moment that went viral, but it encouraged so many people to just be themselves and laugh at things. My advice for those building their social media presence is to remain consistent with posting, avoid overthinking, and don’t worry about what other people think. Post what you like, and you will attract people who like what you like. People tend to gravitate towards authenticity.
