Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mitul Shah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mitul, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
When I traveled to Montreal for the first time, I found their Metro system intriguing due to its brutalist architecture and the distinct appearance of each station. I knew I had to photograph the stations and share my perspective. Over the course of a month in 2021, I captured images of all my favorite stations. Due to the lockdown, the stations were primarily empty, providing me with the opportunity to take long exposures and photos without disturbing anyone.
Eventually, I built a 3D gallery website to showcase my work. It was a moment where I could connect my skills as a developer, designer, and photographer to present a comprehensive showcase of my abilities. People loved the project, and I’m proud of finally putting together a complete piece of work.

Mitul, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I found my footing as a cityscape and architecture photographer – it was what I excelled at the most as I went to school in the heart of Toronto. I was surrounded by the skyscrapers and, it felt only right to capture what I saw through my daily explorations.
My focus has always been to capture a moment in time that will no longer exist. It has always been a joy to capture the ever-changing landscapes of metropolitan cities; a lot of my photos can simply no longer be taken due to the development of new buildings.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that every single Google device has one of my photos as a default wallpaper. It’s a fun thing to show off whenever I’m around someone with a Google phone.
Today, I’m primarily focused on growing as a music photographer. It’s one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done – I get to be front row capturing my favourite artists perform.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Bringing a vision to life through any artistic medium has always been rewarding for me; it’s akin to manifesting your dreams. The reward is even greater when the work is either a) valuable or b) brings joy to people worldwide. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve created something impactful in some way, shape, or form.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Don’t be afraid to share your work. There’s been too many times where I posted photos that I thought weren’t great, yet turned out to be the photos people liked the most. With no doubt, it’s easy to be your hardest critic and sometimes, it’s valuable to look past that.
