We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Becca and Jenna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Becca and below.
Becca and Jenna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Would you say you are more focused on growing revenue or cutting costs? We’d love to hear how you think about these two critical drivers
We’ve found that our focus has naturally evolved over the years. In the early stages of building our design studio, we spent more time and energy on growing revenue. This meant actively seeking out new clients, expanding our services, and increasing our rates as our reputation and demand grew.
However, as our business matured, we realized that simply increasing revenue wasn’t enough; we needed to ensure that our expenses were in check to maintain profitability and sustainability. This shift in focus was crucial for our long-term success.
Today, we approach the relationship between revenue growth and cost management as a dynamic balance. We understand that both drivers are important and that they influence each other. For example, investing in marketing or new services can lead to revenue growth, but it’s essential to monitor and manage the associated costs to ensure profitability.
One story that illustrates our approach is when we decided to expand our team to meet growing client demand. While hiring new team members would increase our costs in the short term, we knew that it was necessary to expand our reach and continue growing our revenue in the long run. By carefully managing our expenses and focusing on revenue growth, we were able to successfully scale our business and are on track for our most profitable year yet!
Overall, we believe that a balanced approach to both revenue growth and cost management is key to building a sustainable and successful business.

Becca and, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We started our careers after college in corporate marketing and after working for large enterprises, we both felt that small businesses could benefit greatly if they had access to the same marketing and branding strategies that major companies did. We started Peanut Butter Creative (named after our shared PB obsession) in 2016 to help founders, particularly women, grow their businesses through strategic marketing and branding.
Many designers focus on aesthetics alone, but our experience has led us to a unique approach that combines growth strategy, effective messaging and attraction branding to develop a holistic brand for our clients that elevates their businesses and leads to growth, confidence and long-term success.
We’re so proud to be entrepreneurs who are also mothers, and employ a team of moms as well. Helping women grow businesses that support their families and allow them to live the lifestyle they want to live is our greatest joy!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Our small but mighty audience continues to grow because we are committed to providing unique value and connection. We show up often, share content that answers our audience’s questions and are also very open about how much we love our work and our clients.
If you’re just starting to build an audience, you need to act as if you have the audience you want and post for them. What questions would they have that you can answer?
We have a lot of success boosting posts and spending time in our DMs with our ideal clients as well to build connection!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
We started Peanut Butter Creative while we were both working full time in corporate marketing. After a year and a half of working nights and weekends (and whenever else we could!), Becca was offered a new job with a salary lower than what she wanted. But, this sparked an idea and she proposed accepting the position if she could work four days a week instead of five. Fridays became a PBC day and allowed our brand to grow at a quicker rate.
By the next year, she quit her job to stay home with her new baby and work exclusively on PBC. The following year, PBC had grown enough to allow Jenna to quit her job as well, but retain her previous employer as a client! PBC has been our full-time job for several years now and in the last 2-3, we’ve really focused on growing a team in order to scale. We have a team of three (moms, like us!) who have helped our brand grow even more and we’re so excited to see what the future brings for Peanut Butter Creative and our incredible team and clients!
