Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DAVID HOFFMANN. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi DAVID, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I realized I wanted to pursue travel and food was in August of 2007, when I had the idea to create David’s Been Here and travel the world. Back then, there was no influencer industry, but I knew there was a way to monetize and create a career based on travel. Everyone wants to travel. Everyone wants to see the world and see new destinations. I was 22 years old, but since I was 15, I had been traveling to Europe, Central America, and South America, and I knew I had to make a career out of travel.
DAVID, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been a professional trip planner since I was 15. Through my content, I teach people where to travel, how to travel, and where to eat. I educate people about places they’ve likely never heard of. I want to break stereotypes about the countries I visit, because over the past 20 years, I’ve learned that you should not judge a country based on what other people have told you. Nearly every time I travel, it’s to a new country. I believe in full immersive travel, so I travel by myself with locals so I can try to fully understand what makes the country unique. I only eat local cuisine, which is the best way to learn about a new place. It’s the best way to learn about the people and where they’ve been. Because I travel alone, I produce everything myself by using a DSLR camera and two iPhones. I’m a host, trip planner, director, cameraman, producer, and scriptwriter.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to bring travel to the masses, and drive tourism to different destinations. I showcase these locations to show people what the world is really like, and to inspire them to visit them. I have a lot of plans in the works of how to bring tourism to destinations through my future business ventures, and I’m very excited about them. If anything I do can help increase tourism and revenue for these destinations, I’ll be very happy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I have the freedom to decide what I want to do every day, and I also have as much time as I need for family. That’s why I like being my own boss. I get to shape what my day looks like.
