We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Lucas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I wanted to make music because i grew up around music my parents grandparents and my cousins kept me around music i gravitated towards making music when i got older because i was seeing artist around my age make music and i felt that i could it as well! over time i realize the power behind it and i like how it made me feel i like how i was able to shift views into my perspective and bring the listeners with me on my journey’s through music similar to audiobooks but with my raps and productions

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
i got into my craft through my cousin Andre, he was like and still is a big brother to me he always tried to get me into sports like basketball but it just wasn’t my thing he was/still is a drum player so he when he would come over he would practice his drums in the basement and i would be downstairs with him watching him play he used to tell me that is when he knew that my calling was music. my creative work that i provide is rap music and production with some visual background i can really flip any song into a rap beat i think i really mastered that sound and i also offer engineering as in mixing and mastering even though I’m still learning the mastering side of music. i don’t really solve problems most cases i try to capture the vision of a client and replicate it as close as i humanly can with the materials i have at my disposal. what sets me apart is that i don’t follow the norms of music society as in i have to be this overrall gangster rapper. i try to tell a story with my songs, my songs are more like a soundtrack of my life. the fears, insecurities, regrets, anger, rage, sadness, loneliness captured in audio form similar to a diary. what i want my fans to know that you are not alone and i hope my music can help you see that its okay to feel those emotions and to let them know i understand and they are not alone in this world.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
a lesson i had to unlearn was to understand the greatness of being different and not following everyone’s style or trend. When i was trying to follow the trend sound i often felt like i wasn’t being true to myself and felt as if i wasn’t being true to my sound. it wasn’t till i saw the interview of “idk” he was explaining how he had to put himself in a different category away from his peers so he could find his true sound; and that resonated with me because that is how i felt for so long and i had to understand that the way i was thinking setting me back so i had to destroy that ideology in my head to truly let be free and let my art speak for me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the fact that you can call piece of art yours the sole ownership of something you created always sat right with me. Every time i finish a album or ep i feel so accomplished that i was able to create this big body of work with my own hands and thoughts its a truly satisfying feeling. And to add on to that it is also satisfying when other people enjoy your art and love it as much as you do.
