Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aysha Cantin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aysha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to make a successful photography business that can be on the lower income side all while still making enough to provide for me and my daughter. As someone who used to spend $300 on photos all the time in this day in age it just wasn’t reasonable so I decided to start my own photography business to help people who want to be able to capture the memories but don’t have the funds to do so. I’ve always been passionate about taking photos and trying to help out so being able to put the two together and create this beautiful business just blows my mind and fills my heart with compassion and gratefulness.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is aysha (pronounced Asia) and I am a 27 year old mamma who was struggling to find a job that still allowed me to be involved in my daughters day to day life but also still give me the creative freedom and photography was screaming my name. I strive to make my prices affordable and even if you can’t afford the pricing I will always work with you and your budget to help capture your memories. Sometimes pictures are all we have to remember a day or person and I would hate for someone to not be able to enjoy that all because of the cost. One of my biggest moments that I’ve had the pleasure of encountering since I’ve started was having an upcoming photographer tell me I was part of the reason why she started her business. As a single mom who just one day went for it and put her whole heart into it, that just proves this is what I’m meant to do and I’m on the right track.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy to grow your clientele is to just go for it. Put yourself out there. Sometimes it is repetitive commenting on posts of people who are in search of your business or sometimes it’s passing out business cards or constantly posting on social media. The number one advice I could give is to just do it! No matter if you feel like you’re being annoying or you are putting yourself out there too much. Do not worry about the backlash or the noise from outsiders. Just go for it and go hard
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped build my reputation in my business is being my true self. I think too many of us so often think we have to change to fit in with the “popular” crowd or we see someone who has a huge following on social media and think we have to do exactly what they are doing. But that couldn’t be the furthest from the truth. Being yourself and doing what you truly love will bring so much more passion into your work and the clients will see that and be more drawn to you and more likely to choose someone who is real and authentic. Don’t follow the crowd be yourself
