We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cari Hunter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cari below.
Cari, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Ever since I was young, I have loved watching movies. Each time I watched one, I found myself curious about its creation. I wanted to understand the process behind animating scenes or designing the props used by actors. However, I set aside this passion because I didn’t believe pursuing a career in the field would provide stability. Nevertheless, my enthusiasm for the creative life remained constant.
Eventually, I transitioned from community college to university, where I discovered the multitude of majors and opportunities available. It was then that I began to question my choices. Dissatisfied with my initial major, I decided to pursue something that brought me genuine happiness. I realized that a career in the creative and artistic fields could indeed lead to success, with some challenges in getting started. Despite the difficulties, I have never regretted my decision. My only wish is that I had embarked on this path sooner.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and it’s been my home for as long as I can remember. However, there’s always been a special place in my heart for New York City, ever since I was just three years old. My family often jokes that in a past life, I must have lived in New York because I talked about it so much, even before I had the chance to visit.
After attending Henry Ford College, I transferred to Michigan State University, where I pursued a major in Advertising Creative (Art Direction). Currently, I’m in the early stages of my career, primarily involved in creating posters, billboards, business cards, and other promotional materials. Alongside my main work, I have a passion for creating mood boards for photoshoots and contributing to set designs and prop making. It’s one of the many side quests in my creative journey that I’m eager to bring to the forefront.
My goal is to become a versatile creative who can do it all while maintaining a sense of balance. I aim to showcase my unique perspective on design and push boundaries by thinking outside the box. Despite the abundance of inspiration in the world, I’m driven to create things that people have never seen before, constantly striving to leave my mark on the creative landscape.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the freedom. I love creating what comes to mind. There is no limit to what I think about, so I can create all day. The freedom to be who you are in today’s society is important. The amount of people trying to stop others from being themselves is at an all-time high. So I want to be free and being a creative is freedom to me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have one major goal as of late is to learn animation. I have always loved animation since I was younger, but I never acted on it until recently. I want to learn the basics of animation, so I can start a YouTube with my animated short films. I want them to be unique and each one have a different meaning behind them. Another way to express my creative passions to the world.
