We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was surrounded by music from the moment I was born. Whether it was my grandparents or my dad and uncles, music was always a big part of Davis family events. So I sang a little here and there growing up, mostly with my Dad and in talent shows . I was always longing to do more with it but felt like the people who actually make it as country singers were some kind of mystical thing and it was unobtainable. So I got an engineering degree and settled down instead. That was until 2019, when I was hit head on by a distracted driver. I nearly died. I had 3 kids at home and one on the way and I remember asking my 20-week pregnant wife over and over after the surgery,”why me?”. It was a rough recovery and all I could think about through each day of it was how I tell my kids each and every day to chase their dreams, but I want chasing mine. When I voiced this to my wife, she jumped right on board and said “well let’s make it happen”. Her confidence in me and my music ultimately gave me the courage I needed to start getting my music out there through social media. And it completely changed my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey yall! My name is Brandon Davis. A nearly fatal car wreck and the support of the most beautiful woman in the world gave me the confidence I needed to chase my dreams. I am a country Singer and Songwriter living in Tennessee with my wonderful family of 6. We have 4 children, one girl and 3 boys and they are my absolute everything and why I’m fighting every single day to show them dreams are worth chasing.
My music career started in 2020 about a year after my wreck. Due to the pandemic, many people were spending more time at home and on social media which truly helped me get my start as my wife began posting clips of me singing to TikTok and YouTube .
I still had a full time job in engineering at this point and would leave it until later in 2021. So that meant we were working overtime. We would film on my lunch breaks and late at night, she would handle all the website building, and emails and we really just made a great team. In November 2020, I released my first song, “God Made Angels” and it was a huge milestone in my career to have my first song out on streaming platforms . I followed that release with “Step By Step” which landed #1 on the ITunes Charts and #4 on Billboard . It’s such a special song dedicated to my oldest two children and so many people have been able to connect and relate to it in a way that’s truly beautiful . From here, we continued to grow and release music. In 2021 I was offered a publishing deal and was finally able to leave my day job and pursue music full time .
In 2022 I was asked to go on a 6 week, 17 show tour with Tim McGraw and it was the absolute best way to get my start into big time touring and learning the ropes . McGraw was an amazing mentor and took me under his wing and told me so many invaluable lessons about life, music and family. My journey truly has been unbelievable even to me at times, and I have God to thank for that. Over the past 4 years, I’ve released over 60 songs , a few albums and even a Christmas children’s book and we’re not slowing down anytime soon! My music is always meant to tell a story and connect with the listener in some way as my daddy always told me if a song can touch one person, you’ve done your job.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Hands down, it’s seeing people connect to my songs. Whether it’s a song that helps them get through a breakup, or one they play at their wedding, hearing the stories of how my music touched people’s heart and meant something to them will forever be what keeps me going in this industry.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
If you’ve seen my social media you may notice a beautiful voice saying “Hey Baby” a lot cause that’s how I got my start! My wife came up to me at the fridge one day unprompted and said “Hey Baby , sing me Brad Paisley … no sing me… “ and the video just blew up . And that became “our thing”. So find your thing! Find a catch phrase, or a unique way to start your videos that recognizable and always gets the viewers attention and then be consistent. Post every single day at the same time and don’t let low views discourage you especially if you have high views then they drop. Just stay consistent and keep at it!
