Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deeana Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deeana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’m going to start off by stating the obvious: my decision on becoming a full time artist did not happen overnight. (Although I hoped and prayed and wish it could.) It actually started out as a joke. Before my midlife crisis began at 23, I had no idea what value I wanted to bring to the world. Of course, i was drawing back then, in highschool. But honestly, I was just winging it. I had several interests; however that is where they ended. Just interests. I attended several college fairs, watching my peers who had their 15 year old hearts and minds already set on their careers. One day, I told my sister: “Fuck it. I’m going to be an artist.” I remember growing up watching movies where the artist was portrayed as hungry, poor, unstable. And for some reason, that did not scare me. The more I seriously considered pursuing art, the more I felt the passion in my bones.
One year before I graduated, I created a page dedicated to my art. I gained a solid audience, and, shortly after, received many freelance opportunities. Although it wasn’t as easy as I am describing, I am and will always be grateful for the path set before me. For anyone reading this having trouble finding their “purpose”, I want to say: it will come to you. When it happens, you will know.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I established and manage a freelance graphic art business that aims to create brand identity. I pride myself in my genuine, authentic approach in helping other businesses showcase their company and relate to their audience. I also enjoy breathing life into the characters and stories I create.
Unsure on what aesthetic will attract your target audience? I can help with that. Do you need a book, comic or portrait illustrated? I’m your gal. In need of custom prints, logo designs, gif animations, videos, websites and social media profiles? Your search stops here.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is knowing that you can live “forever” through your art, and the things that you create.
However, some artists don’t have such a passionate take on their work. That is okay! Not every piece has to have meaning.
For me, being able to share a message, however simple, that touches the heart of anyone, is worth more than any amount money in this world.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
There is a quote I read in the past-that has stuck with me ever since.
“To have joy, one must share it.”
This principle can be applied to so many factors of life.
The best thing you can do, to support your local artist is to share and spread that artwork to those around you. You may never know how it will affect the artist or the viewer. (And it’s free)
