We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brea Miles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brea below.
Brea, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft is one of the most important things for me. Learning the craft is learning the voice of God. Learning how He speaks to me through music. All my verses are freestyles and all the production comes from God telling me what He wants a song to sound like. So it’s really a in the moment, being free in God experience. It’s about leaving space for Him to move rather than me putting myself all over a song.
I really want to respect God in that way. Because He’s the one that gifted us the power to create. So my goal is always to submit back to Him what He’s blessed and trusted me with.
Of course I have fun with it but I’m really big on God knowing that I’m not trying to take credit for His work & His gifts. So hopefully when people listen they feel His presence & know He’s real!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a rapper, writer, speaker, author, tv-radio host, and producer.
I started doing music when I was five (5). I had a cleaning business where I’d wash tires, take out trash, and clean up little spaces people couldn’t fit into…lol!
I charged $10 and after I got paid I asked them if they wanted to hear me rap and if they said yes I’d freestyle and then told them it would be a extra $2.00 ..lol! So music always been apart of me!
But as for the other things I kinda just fell into them! When my song “Crazy Faith” came out a Radio Show in Charlotte heard it and really liked it. So they asked if I’d like to guest host their show and it turned into me getting my own radio show!
Overall doing so many things does take a lot of discipline and focus. Especially because I’m heavily involved on every level from creation to the business side of things.
I’m literally involved in every detail, sometimes it can be a lot but it’s what we prayed & worked for. So I’d rather have a full plate than an empty one!
On the service side of things we offer custom production & marketing.
Honestly the thing that sets me apart is that God has called me to do this & His presence is with me. There’s no way I’m doing things without Him.
I’m most proud of the fact that I didn’t and won’t switch sides for a bag. I committed my craft to God and my loyalty is to Him. It’s easy to say yes to what will benefit you but dishonoring God is not an option. I want to stand on and stay in truth!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I don’t believe that it’s an issue of it being hard for non-creatives to understand. We all walk through this journey wanting to know why we’re here what’s our purpose.
We all know It takes real strength and self-belief to build something that has never been established.
As a creative you’re creating opportunities for yourself and others not using a system that is already in place & being funding by government, organizations, etc.
There is no boss for us and that level of self confidence that you have to have to walk on your own isn’t something that everyone chooses.
It takes a different level of heart not to fall into what society projects on a person about their life.
But I think if we could all learn to just be confident within ourselves and understand that we all play apart in the well-being of the world we could get a lot more accomplished.
The arts have the power to change peoples perspectives, energy, and actions. It literally shapes culture & ideas. Everything that was built in the world was an idea. Business of all kinds rather political, religious, or artistic are all of equal value. Because they all have the power to change lives. And that’s one of the reasons we are here.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
