We recently connected with SoxGnar and have shared our conversation below.
SoxGnar , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
We all have been musicians and friends for a long time. So the music comes naturally, but still takes hours of practice to try and sound good. It’s a huge learning process keeping up with social media platforms, recording content, mixing and mastering our own music while we continue to work on new songs. The main obstacle is growing our name and getting the word out. As long as we are working on something daily that revolves around SoxGnar I know everything will pan out! It’s tough as an independent artist but with three of us it makes it a hell of a lot easier.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Dean, Scotty and Andy. We all have musical back grounds and have worked with each other in various bands and musical projects. When we get together SoxGnar just feels right. Something about the vibe in the room. We definitely have a dark humor, youthful attitude towards our music. We want you to have fun and feel welcome. If the lyrics or the beat make you smile and feel good that’s the whole point. We’re never gonna stop pushing. Music is part of all of us and it’s literally what keeps us sane.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Most importantly, Engage with other artists on social media platforms. Be nice and make friends! It’s not a competition. I really enjoy looking up new artists on Spotify. Us smaller artist don’t have a massive marketing budget so we need to help each other out. Going to live events and supporting is a must!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Honestly I wish we would have hopped on social media sooner. We were on it just not active on the daily. It’s an amazing tool for artists and has helped us meet some pretty amazing people!
