We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jesus Barajas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jesus, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission and vision that my company believes in is we want to “Increase Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness in Rural Communities, Organizations, and Become a Recognized Community Influencer to Increase AED Public Access.”
I have been fortunate to not needing to provide CPR out of my 7 years of teaching. With the research and studies I continue to do and improve our class, I come to find out there are many communities out there that have no access to CPR training (funds) or to an AED device. There are bystanders that pull out their phone to record an emergency instead of calling 911 or even checking for responsiveness. 9 out of 10 Cardiac Arrest victims that do not have an AED shock within 5 minutes usually die. With our mission to show the “Hands-Only” CPR course we are able to pass out the very basic knowledge of providing CPR until 911 arrives. Being able to sell AED devices our program gives us the advantage to get devices within 4 minutes throughout the city.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My business specializes in providing CPR classes to everyone and anyone, including corporate business and organizations. The best part about us is we have the best prices around! Not only are we affordable for the rural communities, but we also make sure everyone is taught the same and correctly to ensure they leave the class with all the confidence needed to help in an emergency. The biggest issues we have with our clients are they have no safety plans. That is where we come in to help!
Our AED partner “Cardiac Nation” philosophy is centered around personalized AED Programs that address the unique needs of each client. We believe in taking a professional approach to build a foundation for all small and large customers. Our goal is to save as many lives as possible by teaching others proper protocols and providing life saving equipment for businesses or individuals nationwide.
With this program we do in-person walkthroughs in the company. We compile the number of employees, building floors, elevator access, departments, keypad access, size, 911 distance and much, much more! With all this information we can create a specific safety program to have team dynamics, AED access, 911 emergency plan, and how to properly administer CPR. We help chose the correct location for the AED placement. Our AEDs come in packages to include a cabinet, CPR kit, AED sign and much more. Once we have the numbers put together we continue with the training for our program. We will have a CPR class that covers the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). The device our client chooses will be included with the exact training model during the class!
SCA can happen at any moment, to any person. We push to tell the importance of knowing how to provide CPR. If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a parent, or a friend. DO YOUR PART, SAVE A HEART!

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my business partner , Mandi Nickerson – CEO of Cardiac Nation, about 8 years ago. We talked a lot about safety and cardiac arrest and what is needed in our community. We worked at a location and we were finally able to bring in CPR and AED products into a company. After our contract ended we decided to then build our own companies specializing in CPR trainings and AED products. With my experience in teaching CPR for 7 years and her AED expertise over 10 years we have partnered up to provide a full circle of our AED program. I strictly focus on training and getting the knowledge out while Mandi focuses on getting all the products and materials needed for the AED portion. Together we have a full scale safety plan that includes us helping pick the proper AED for your location, deciding whether you are needing a Bleed Control Kit, Epi Pen, LifeVac and much more products. Some companies may not need these, but for our schools we always provide a full range of safety products. This is just an example of how each clients program is unique to Save A Life. Our goal is to have as many of our products available ready-to-use and the confidence to provide CPR.

How did you build your audience on social media?
This is the trickiest part of being a business owner, especially if you are older haha! So I just started getting into the social media marketing myself. I have always believed in the person to person, word of mouth style marketing. Don’t get me wrong, this is still one of the most powerful marketing strategies out there, but we are in a time were it is not survival of the fittest but now survival of the adapter. The world of technology is changing at the fastest pace ever, and if you are not staying updated you will get left behind. Now and days all it takes is ONE video to go viral and become famous or known. We sell a popular device known as the “LifeVac.” This device has been out for a few years but all it took was one video of the device being used, gone viral, and now sold over 1million devices. I started building my audience at a super slow pace, because it takes time to get noticed and be on the random feeds. The best way is to plan out a post/video daily, use scheduling to automatically post them and keep posting almost everyday and be consistent with it! You have to be able to know the latest hashtags, what platforms to use and post, the correct times and much more. I started using TikTok to learn methods. It’s all about the filters, reel style, songs, to the location you are at even! The most effective strategy for me was giving out a free pair of Dallas Mavericks tickets by doing the basic follow, like and tag. Please do not look at my social media for this as my current method is mouth-to-mouth marketing but I do plan on integrating this method soon!
