Zayna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2022, I was looking at clothes on a rack, and saw a maxi skirt that you could see through, with a mini slip underneath. I thought to myself, “people don’t make modest clothing anymore.” At that point, I decided I would like to learn to make my own dresses, and the idea grew into me wanting to eventually sell them. I started watching fashion shows, and came across Chanel, and her famous tweed suit, and that’s what my life changed forever. I got my first set of women’s suits for myself, and haven’t looked at fashion the same since. Now my business will be strictly based on modest clothing, elegance, and timeless beauty expressed through suit and two piece set making because I love a timeless look.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am still in class developing my skill as a seamstress and designer. My business will be focused on women feeling beautiful again, while being completely covered up. Not with baggy clothes, but with modest clothing tailored just for them, and because I have a son, I can’t skip out on men’s suits, sets, and timeless coats as well. I want people to remember why being modest sets a woman and man apart, the power behind feeling completely comfortable in your clothes, and that showing off your body with revealing clothes will never compare to an effortless, modest appearance. It’s to build confidence back into our society, and especially since I’m young, be the example of a young woman dressing like a Jackie.O
Have you ever had to pivot?
I was a banker, and enjoyed my career, however, I always knew I wanted to work for myself. I knew I didn’t want to just sit at a computer all day, but I wanted to be out and about, doing something I really love.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Despite losing everything during COVID-19, and being a single mother, I learned that starting all the way over is possible. It takes a lot of energy and strength, but it can be done. I am still young, and want to do something great with my life, even though it’s a slower journey this time around. I’m learning true patience, and am able to face my weaknesses to overcome them now.
