We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Precious Whitener a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Precious, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think in order to be successful you have to be willing to see challenges as opportunities for growth as opposed to seeing them as threats! Oftentimes we may think challenges are a threat when I’ve come to learn, they are an opportunity to learn, grow, and reflect. Challenges are an invitation to be curious, to rise and to become…to become better! To become wiser! To become open-minded and to become the most impactful! Trust me, don’t miss the opportunity to overcome challenges, you will be better because of it.
Precious, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a visionary and three-time best-selling author, who’s a highly sought after inspirational speaker. I’m a lover of all things growth, development and empowerment. Over the past 10 years , I’ve come to learn that often times we are the ones who are “in our own way.” I’ve had conversations with hundreds of people about the things the things that hold them back in business, relationships, chasing their dreams, or taking risks, or the things that keep them stuck and the common thread is always connected to their mindset and their beliefs. These conversations really inspired me my work in the personal growth & self-development industry because I knew I had a proven ability to help individuals get unstuck, boost their confidence so that they can navigate the next chapter of life.
At my core, I essentially help individuals develop a solutions oriented perspective towards life’s problems! I used to think all of life’s problems needed to be solved by someone else and I quickly learned that humans a are talented, gifted, creative humans who are capable of doing amazing things and they have what it takes to be successful!
I have been featured in KISH Magazine, Little Black Book, Become Magazine, The Saint Louis American, Voyage STL Magazine, and Dominion TV, as well as interviews on various radio platforms, underscore my prominence.
I’ve been recognized for my positive influence, and I have received multiple community awards. Beyond my literary achievements, I assume diverse roles as an influencer, mentor, facilitator, and trailblazer. On a personal mission, I endeavor to push, motivate, and inspire others, emphasizing the enduring pursuit of self-improvement.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by being true and authentic to myself. It’s easy to look around and want to do what everyone else is doing but you have to ask yourself – is this me?! So for me, I felt it was important for me to be true to my values, true to my journey and true to my goals! My goal is for people to become better so I promote things that help others become better. My goals is for people to be true to who they are and their journey so I shine a light on my own personal journey and story which gives others permission to do the same. I encourage you be true to yourself don’t compromise yourself to gain followers the right people will come.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that it’s okay to welcome other voices in your life! It’s okay to have multiple & diverse perspectives in your ear, especially if it’s making you a better person. I used to only welcome certain voices that I felt comfortable with into my life but that doesn’t mean I was always growing. Some of those voices kept me stuck in the same place or kept me from growing. Growing up, you’re taught to trust a “certain few” and not to let everyone in your life and to some degree I agree however whatever happens when those people you trust aren’t investing in themselves or doing the personal work to heal & grow. So I had to unlearn that type of thinking in order to receive new people with new outlooks who ultimately helped me to get to new spaces & places in life and in my career
