We were lucky to catch up with Raul Casillas recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Raul, thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?

One remarkable insight I had when I found myself working with one of the top Architects in LA, yet I still, felt with no creative freedom and unable to express myself as I desired. Despite being part of a well-known creative office in the US, I felt trapped by the formalities of architecture.

Architecture is one of the most creative fields in the professional realm. It empowers us to use our creative minds to explore new forms and ways of living. However, as society progresses, digital platforms offer greater creative expression opportunities than physical landscapes.

This prompted me to explore applying my creativity in different fields, leading me to the imaginative realms of gaming. I couldn’t resist such vast ways of art expression that happen in gaming, from creating the game to the experience of the player. I learned that gaming offers a multifaceted approach to therapy, addressing various aspects of mental, emotional, and social well-being. By 2022, after the pandemic, we would never have imagined the virtual world that emerged. It opened the door to a new digital entertainment unlike any before.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

My name is Raul Casillas, I am a 35-year-old from Mexico. I went to architecture school here in Los Angeles at SCI-ARC. From there, I started my creative path. I have 10+ years’ experience as a professional architect however, my passion for gaming led me to embark on a new venture.

Two years ago, I decided to launch my own gaming business. In 2022, RACS GANG, better known as LA GANG, was born. It is more than just a community of gamers; It’s a platform designed to foster connection, enjoyment, and above all, creative expression. A perfect scenario to offer products and services for our community, from social interactive events to collectible items.

Gaming has always held a special place in me. From my earliest memories, gaming has been the way to connect with others whether it was with my neighbors, friends, or family. Some of my most memorable fun experiences have been centered around gaming.

I decided to blend my professional expertise with my passion for gaming, creating a space where I could be myself and have creative freedom. LA GANG allows me to channel my skills in a way that not only brings joy to others but also enables me to thrive personally and professionally.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

One of the primary goals of Racs Gang is to establish an entertainment studio. From my perspective, everything we are currently doing creatively is pushing us in that direction. Building an entertainment studio involves creativity across multiple areas, such as content creation, production, and storytelling. It’s a significant driving force behind what we do creatively.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being creative is the ability to express oneself authentically and connect with others on a deep emotional level through my work. I present myself as a vulnerable individual, sharing with my audience, my learning experience throughout my career and my dedication to my craft. Others can learn the importance of staying true to their unique vision. Additionally, I consistently refine my skills, seek inspiration from various sources, and welcome feedback, all of which serve as a valuable lesson for future creations. Ultimately, the journey of self-discovery and growth as a creative is incredibly fulfilling and has the power to inspire others to pursue their goals in the same way with passion and perseverance.
