We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keven Rosa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keven, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero for sure is Lady Gaga, since the beginning she has captivated me and ultimately influenced me to become a singer/songwriter myself, the thought started back in 2018, when I watched a Star is born, initially I was like that’s impossible, so I didn’t do anything with it, until two years later in 2020 when I officially started practicing songwriting, I’ve been singing my whole life and I felt like I had to add more to what I can do, and knew I was capable of, the reason I connected so much with her is of course she is an LGBTQ+ icon, and no matter what I did, or who I was, I had a community supporting me and music to listen to if I ever felt discouraged from the media/people around the world. The fact that I get to say I’m living in the same time as her is surreal, I hope I can meet her one day and just give her my utmost thanks for everything she has done. My life definitely had its hardships, from moving to the United States mainland and changing schools constantly, coming out to my family/friends, to going homeless, and still finding the light of day, she always brightened my path and kept me going, and I hope one day I can shed some light to those with a similar experience as me.
Keven, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into this industry by connecting with producers in a website called “Sound Better” you can connect with many industry leading producers that will help you with your dream song, it did ultimately become very expensive so I had to part ways which made it harder for me to fulfill my dream of making an album and becoming a pop star. But that definitely did not stop me, I did have college to complete around this time, I was halfway done with my bachelors in psychology, and just wanted to drop everything and pursue my singing career. •I believe what sets me apart from many is that I am a very comfortable man, and not afraid to express what I feel, both internally, and what I wear. I’m not afraid to wear makeup, and most definitely not afraid to sing about things I believe in.
One thing I want my followers/fans to know is that I am finally complete with my album which is coming soon, I do have the title but that will be released soon I promise. My fourth studio single will release sometime by the end of this month (April 2024) or next month.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would say going homeless, back in 2013 with my mother and my brother, I talk a little bit about this in my latest single “to be loved.” My mother’s job wasn’t able to allow her to take more hours, which caused her to go into a downward spiral, we thankfully were able to find a homeless shelter that took us, and my school was notified as well, they did help us get back on our feet, but with the help of my mom and brother we were able to find a place to call home.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I can confidently say a pivotal moment in my career was signing with my current record label “Maddaq Music Group” they are very new and are still establishing themselves, and currently are finding new artists locally throughout the east coast, I’m very proud of them, as they are with me, they believed me and my work, as well did I with their establishment.
Since signing with them, I have finished a full studio album, and a music video on the way, which I never thought would’ve been possible.
