Yeager, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
These days, it’s impossible to discuss photography without mentioning artificial intelligence (AI). With software advancements like Midjourney and Adobe Firefly, the role of photographers, especially in large-scale marketing, is undergoing significant shifts.
However, I firmly believe that AI and artificially generated images will not replace photographers.
In the past, photographers expressed concerns about the rise of stock photography, yet it hasn’t supplanted photographers. Stock photography provides designers with opportunities to create materials for diverse marketing needs. However, taste, creativity, and a deep understanding of branding and design remain crucial for business growth. The same applies to artificially generated images—they serve as tools, not the ultimate solution.
Businesses, regardless of size, still require authentic images that reflect their essence. For instance, I specialize in capturing various events like commencements for higher education institutions, reunion celebrations, and lifestyle photos for different businesses.
Currently, leveraging AI to create usable or desirable photos for marketing or consumers is unfeasible.
Nonetheless, photographers must not become complacent; adaptation is crucial.
It’s increasingly vital for photographers to distinguish themselves in their fields and to master essential business skills such as communication and relationship-building to remain relevant in today’s evolving market.
The era of mediocre photography skills and business strategies is over. Failing to maintain professional, well-edited, and creative standards in photography or delivering subpar client experiences can lead to the downfall of a photography business in this competitive landscape.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began exploring photography during my senior year in college as a hobby, driven by my enduring passion for blending technology with creativity. As a student, I gained valuable experience working in the theater shop constructing sets. Building sets requires a technical understanding of tools, paint application, and constructing structures from various materials. However, it also demands the ability to tell stories creatively and captivate interest.
Alongside my set building experiences, I found joy in creating electronic music. This endeavor necessitated knowledge in music theory, composition, melodies, and the technical aspects of using synthesizers to create sounds.
Considering these interests, photography naturally became an appealing pursuit, combining technical expertise with the creation of visually stunning imagery.
I offer a diverse range of services to my clients, including portraits, corporate photography, boudoir sessions, weddings, and more. What sets me apart from other photographers is my background as a digital marketer. This enables me to not only deliver quality photos but also to leverage photography, imagery, and various media effectively to serve my clients’ broader needs.
For instance, I guide clients on utilizing the photos I capture for them in email campaigns, marketing materials, web design, and print communications.
One aspect I take great pride in is the genuine connections I establish with the people I work with and photograph. There’s often a pressure for photographers or small business owners to maintain a strictly “professional” demeanor, which can sometimes stifle creativity and risk-taking. In my view, one can be humorous, playful, and still maintain professionalism. I like to say, “I take my work seriously, but I don’t take myself too seriously.”

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Google has been the primary source of clients for me. Leveraging my background in digital marketing, I have dedicated considerable effort to enhancing the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for my photography business. Naturally, SEO is a long-term endeavor, but I prioritize consistency in creating content and updating my website. I am fortunate to now reap the rewards of several months’ worth of diligent work.
