Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blake Moseley . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Blake, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
As a podcaster, I’ve been able to use my love and passion for things like music and mental health advocacy to create content that people enjoy. Whats even more fulfilling is hearing stories about how our episodes have helped them in some way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My first podcast was fairly successful thanks to the help of my cohost and brother in law Brian. We went through a pretty traumatizing experience leaving our old church and decided to take those feelings and vent on a social platform in hopes of it being some form of encouragement for others who may be experiencing something similar. The Not Religious Podcast was born. We had a good run, but felt that it was time to hang it up. After that, I took that drive and love for podcasting and put it into what we do at When Words Fail, Music Speaks, James approached me about starting a podcast about music and I was all in. We both suffer from depression and started talking about how music can be therapeutic. Now with our newest cohost Amanda, who is a licensed therapist, we can really get every angle when we start talking about the heavier topics. In addition to that, I started a true crime/paranormal podcast called South Carolina Spookshow as a fun little project about all the ghost stories and eerie tales that SC has to offer,
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I like connecting with people. I love talking to others who feel comfortable enough to share their stories with me and create an atmosphere of transparency. Playing music with different people really opens up my creativity and makes me want to try new things. Whether thats about our similar tastes in music, our bond through deep conversations about life, or a good ghost story. I think the world is full of beautiful human beings and I love making new friends.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Art is all about being yourself, so do the things you wanna do. Before I play drums on a song or record a new episode, I ask myself, “is this something that I would want to listen to?” If the answer is no, I scrap it. I think taking risks is a good thing at times, but ultimately, do what you love and it’ll make creating content a lot easier. Focus on what makes you happy. Theres a good chance someone out there feels the same way you do.
