We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dave Rabin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dave, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Since childhood, Dr. Dave harbored an enduring fascination for the mysteries of the unconscious mind. Questions about the significance of dreams and the activities of our brains during sleep captivated his young mind. This early fascination has profoundly influenced his career trajectory. From delving into the complexities of chronic stress to exploring the realms of sleep and psychedelics, his journey invariably circles back to that formative childhood curiosity.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Dr. Dave Rabin, MD, PhD is the Executive Director of The Board of Medicine, who is one of only a handful of psychedelic experts duly credentialed as an MD and PhD and practicing ketamine and MDMA-assisted therapy with his patients. In 15 years of studying the impact of chronic stress in humans, he focuses on non-invasive therapies for treatment-resistant illnesses. He is also the Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at Apollo Neuroscience, the first scientifically validated wearable technology to improve heart rate variability, focus, relaxation, and access to meditative states by delivering gentle vibrations to the body. He received his MD in medicine and PhD in neuroscience from Albany Medical College and specialized in psychiatry with a distinction in research at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. He splits his time between upstate New York and the Bay Area.
Apollo Neuroscience was created by a team of neuroscientists and physicians and co-founded by Dr. Dave Rabin, MD. PhD., board-certified psychiatrist and neuroscientist, the Apollo Neuroscience wearable, Apollo ($349), delivers soothing vibrations to your body designed to signal safety to the brain and help strengthen your nervous system to improve sleep, focus and energy, and reduce stress. As it strengthens and rebalances the autonomic nervous system, heart rate variability (HRV) improves – which means you’re building resilience to stress. Over time, the body will learn to recover from stress more quickly. Worn as a band around the wrist, ankle or as a clip attached to clothing, it pairs with an app to select a variety of Vibes, which all vibrate at different rates and rhythms, including Energy, Good Morning, Focus, Social, Power Nap, Unwind, Calm, Recover, and Fall Asleep. An upcoming feature will leverage AI to recognize movements during your sleep and automatically play soothing vibrations to keep you from waking up.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having a reliable team surrounding and being able to share success with his wife and business partner, Kathryn Fantauzzi.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Working with many veterans and those who suffer from severe PTSD, it can be taunting to try and empathize with someone on that level. Beyond being a doctor, Dr. Dave also has to be a friend and someone his patients can trust which has led to him excelling in more aspets than what he may have imagined.
