We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey Craig recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Homefulness…
When I was on the commercial interiors side, a great mentor in the industry started talking about the emotion of Homefulness as described by Tiffany Watt Smith in her book, The Book of Human Emotions. We talked so much about shaping commercial spaces to exhibit “the pleasure of being at home”. This really stuck with me, and I have found that many of my current residential clients are searching for this emotion in their own homes.
This has fueled my mission at Lindsey Craig Interiors: creating spaces that embody the feeling of home while honoring the individual needs and dreams of each client. Home is more than just a place to live. It should be a functional, inspirational, and beautifully designed space that creates memories and welcomes you home with joy to the place your spirit craves.
Lindsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion for design started when I was young. I had the privilege of growing up in New Orleans, surrounded by beautiful architecture and a creative culture unlike any other. I pursued a degree in Architecture initially and changed paths my junior year with a strong calling to Interior Design. I wanted to impact and shape how people lived their lives through interior spaces. That was powerful to me.
Post graduation, I spent over thirteen years on the commercial side of the interior design industry. I loved every minute and gained relationships and experiences that were invaluable to me. The best part of my job was helping others love the outcome of their projects.
All the while, My husband and I had renovated a few homes, and I was offering design advice to family and friends on their own residential projects.
In 2020, I made the leap into residential design full time, starting Lindsey Craig Interiors. It was a risk, but with the right investments, endless research, support from some AMAZING friends and family, my dreams became reality.
I am in the business of shaping the spaces that shape peoples lives. WHAT A GIFT!
At LCI, I offer full service residential Interior Design Services including: New Construction Floorplan Consultation and Development, New Construction Interior Finish Selections, Furniture and Finishing Selections, and a fun option of “Designer for a Day” for clients that don’t need full service, but want some recommendations that can give them an immediate impact on their space.
The most rewarding projects have been where I get to work with clients beginning to end, creating a beautifully thought out design with a holistic vision in mind. New Construction has been extremely rewarding. Starting with dirt, learning about the client and how they live, working with architects on creating floorplans that actually work for specific and thought out needs, I have a method to my madness. I approach things a bit more methodically, with a specific process that weighs heavy on getting to know the clients, their hopes for their space, their needs, their likes, and their dislikes. Taking all we know about each other, I work to create a beautiful space through finish selections, furniture selections, down to the detail of what is sitting on their coffee table! My goal is to make them excited to come home at the end of the day.
One of my favorite things to do on projects is incorporate local artists into my design. I find so much of my inspiration through artists and their creative genius. These really are the finishing touches that clients may not even realize they need in their space. Supporting other entrepreneurs and creatives is such a rewarding part of my business, and I am honored every time a client falls in love with an artist I shared with them.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
YES, I wish I knew the importance of investing in yourself and your personal brand. Whether working with a corporation, small business, or as an entrepreneur, knowing the importance of investing in yourself is HUGE. Invest in a business coach, partner with an experienced professionals in your field and learn from their expertise. Join professional organizations and network with other professionals in your in your craft. All of these things may be money out of your personal pocket and will definitely take time out of your schedule, but they will be invaluable as you grow who you are in your field. DON’T BE AFRAID TO SPEND THE MONEY AND TAKE THE TIME FOR YOU! It took me longer than it should have in my career to do so.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
Using my God-given talent in a way that makes others’ lives more enjoyable. When I was young in my career, I didn’t realize the way that I think and see the world was unique. I can walk into a room and see my vision of the completed space come to life in my mind. I see the beauty all around me and find inspiration in the smallest of places. My finance minded husband helped me realize not everyone saw the world the way I did!
Sharing these gift and using them to create spaces that people love and thrive in is truly a gift. The icing on the cake is seeing the world through my 4 year old daughters sweet eyes. I can already see her creativity starting to shine and the way she looks at our families art collection is inspiring. She looks in amazement and talks about what she loves in each piece. I pray I remember these sweet moments forever.
