Kagan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
Certainly, envisioning an educational system akin to the democratic ideals of the ancient Greek Senate is a fascinating concept. In this utopian educational environment, each student would have the freedom to explore their passions and ideas in a collaborative and supportive community.
One significant change would be the decentralization of education, where individual instructors act as facilitators rather than dictators of knowledge. Instead of rigid curriculums and standardized testing, students would have the autonomy to pursue their interests and tailor their education to their unique strengths and goals.
Imagine a classroom where students gather in a spirit of intellectual curiosity, engaging in lively debates and discussions guided by their own interests and perspectives. Here, the exchange of ideas is celebrated, and diversity of thought is embraced as a catalyst for innovation and growth.
One such example from my own experience illustrates the need for such a change. During my schooling, I often felt constrained by the one-size-fits-all approach to education, where creativity and individuality were stifled in favor of conformity and uniformity. As a result, many students, myself included, struggled to find meaning and fulfillment in the educational system.
In contrast, in this utopian educational environment inspired by the ancient Greek Senate, students would be encouraged to think critically, question assumptions, and challenge the status quo. They would have the opportunity to pursue independent research projects, collaborate with peers on interdisciplinary endeavors, and seek mentorship from knowledgeable instructors who serve as guides rather than authorities.
By fostering a culture of intellectual freedom and exploration, this utopian educational system would empower students to become lifelong learners and active participants in shaping their own destinies. It’s a vision of education where the pursuit of knowledge is not just a means to an end but a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Surething. I am an Art Director and CGI Lighting TD based in Los Angeles, specializing in bringing visual narratives to life through the magic of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and motion design. We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
When it comes to NFTs, I’m incredibly optimistic about their potential to revolutionize the art world. In fact, I recently had the honor of breaking a record for the fastest sold-out NFT collection, which reaffirmed my belief in the power of this technology. As a curator of an important NFT marketplace, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that NFTs can have on artists and collectors alike.
What truly excites me about NFTs is not just their ability to provide authentication and ownership for artists, but also the revolutionary income model they offer through secondary sales and royalty mechanisms. This model empowers individual artists by ensuring that they continue to benefit from the appreciation of their work over time, long after the initial sale. It’s a game-changer for creatives, providing a sustainable source of income and financial stability in an industry historically dominated by intermediaries.
For me, NFTs represent more than just a new way to buy and sell art; they signify a decentralization movement that empowers individual artists by providing authentication without the need for gatekeepers or galleries. This shift in ownership and authenticity is crucial for the future of art, offering creators unprecedented control over their work and earnings. While some may focus solely on the proliferation of profile picture (PFP) projects, I see NFTs as a catalyst for creativity, innovation, and inclusivity in the digital art community.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Certainly! One pivotal moment in my career occurred when I met Zaha Hadid at the Applied Arts University of Vienna. Her innovative approach to design and architecture inspired me to explore new creative avenues. Another significant moment was when an important graphic designer gifted me an Alias Maya book to translate into Turkish. This gesture sparked my determination to learn Maya, pushing me to expand my skill set and delve into the world of 3D design. These experiences taught me the value of embracing new challenges and seizing opportunities for growth and learning in my career journey.
