Joey & Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

For us success has always been in healing and not monetary or material gain. What we do is very personal, when people come to us they are looking for peace and when we can see them leave lighter than they came in, that is success. Some come in very open and others are guarded and skeptical, when they walk out of our room and can’t stop smiling it makes us smile too. Healing is universal yet so isolating, it’s immensely validating to feel seen in such an unfiltered way. 80% of our business is word of mouth, the more that spreads the more successful we feel.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We met in our early 20’s, and have been together almost 20 years now. Having a family and being forced to face past traumas was a huge catalyst for this journey we’ve taken. We started out like many others, lost but looking for answers. The more spiritual we became the more we knew we had to follow this path. It wasn’t until we had lost our important loved ones that we started to see how important this healing was. It took big loses to force us to accept who we were and how we could use our past to improve our future. Even knowing that it would never be easy. We started with readings, providing validation that our loved ones are still with us and there is much life after death. The more we worked with Spirit the more important crystals, incense, journaling, and intention became, this is what inspired us to branch into metaphysical healing and supplies. We went from markets and online to our own space, bringing Scents & Spirituality to where it is now. We offer psychic and mediumship readings, incense, crystals, sage, and more in our store in Bisbee. We also offer readings worldwide via Zoom and phone. Our mission is to share Spirit with the world and as honestly as possible, let people know they aren’t alone in their struggles. Childhood trauma, abuse, addiction, and fear are all woven into our story, we know it has all happened for us and we share that openly. One of the things that set us apart from others in our industry is that we are very healing centric. Sometimes it takes the hard truths and painful acknowledgments to reach a place of peace, we want to facilitate that the best we can. We aren’t perfect nor is our journey any better than anyone else’s, we just choose not to do it alone. Whether you come in for a crystal, a reading, or just to say hi, we want to welcome you, know you, and make sure you leave feeling better than you did when you walked in.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

It isn’t every day that your business partner is your partner in life but we are so blessed to have that opportunity. We met on a blind date in December of 2004. To this day we can’t understand why we were chosen by our double date partners for this blind date but we are so glad we were. We became pretty inseparable from the beginning. Don’t get us wrong, that doesn’t mean it’s been easy! We were babies, just 21 and 22 yet somehow we’ve made it here, almost 20 years later. We have two children, both teenagers and our fur babies as well. We never knew that we would be partners like this, for most of our life Joey worked long hours in management roles and I kept the home. Even as the readings began we didn’t know it would bring us here. When Joey left his secure job so we could jump into the unknown, it was the biggest test of faith there is. We know this would have never worked if it wasn’t with each other. No matter how much we are tested or test each other, we will never let the other fall and it’s been the backbone of our business.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

We know there is a lot of ways to market these days but our strategy has been to treat others as we would want to be treated. We don’t believe in spiritually bulldozing anyone so most people have to find us, and it has to be when they are ready. We don’t use social media besides our Facebook page and it’s an intentional decision. There is a lot of noise out there and we don’t want to add to it. This universe is way bigger than us and it brings us the people we are meant to know without fail. Word of mouth is our biggest growth. When someone walks out of a session and connected to their loved one they share that with anyone that will listen, often leading to those they speak to coming in as well. We keep our prices fair, we listen to your needs, and even if you buy nothing we are always grateful to meet you. This is our strategy, but I wouldn’t call it that, we don’t have to try to be this way, it’s just how we feel.
