We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Kira DuCharme. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Kira below.
Alright, Dr. Kira thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents allowed me to make important decisions regarding my life at a very early age. I decided to attend boarding school in Florida at the age of 12. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I grew mentally–navigating social situations, and rigorous academic standards. And with a clear view of what I wanted for myself in the future, when given the option to stay in France with my mom or move, I decided to move to Michigan to live with my dad and bonus mom. This was another pivotal moment in my life, I was leaving what was familiar and comfortable for the hope of a better future. The autonomy, support, and encouragement that I receive from my parents are unmatched. Allowing me to be a part of shaping my life has taught me to take responsibility for my decisions. I also feel that I am more of myself–as opposed to living someone else’s dream of what my life should be or the life someone wished for themself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a licensed naturopathic physician and founder of DuCharme Integrative Dermatology. My interest in skin health began early in my medical school career. While pursuing opportunities in dermatology, I became the first naturopathic medical student to secure an internship with a board-certified dermatologist. This internship was completed at NicholsMD of Greenwich.
My private practice provides cosmetic treatments including cosmetic acupuncture, facial cupping, and facial gua sha, acupuncture to address sleep, anxiety, and stress, Flower Essences to address emotional imbalances, botanical medicine, and physician-to-physician consults, I also provide services as a brand advisor to clean beauty and skincare brands.
My practice treats women who prefer natural rejuvenation. My patients understand the necessity for preventative care and they understand the positive impact that leading a healthy lifestyle has on their overall health and appearance. My patients play an active role in their treatment plans. We discuss diet, lifestyle, and exercise. I enjoy educating my clients on holistic skin wellness. Education is key for my pregnant patients who are experiencing skin changes due to hormonal shifts, and for my cancer/remission patients who are seeking to incorporate less toxic body care products.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Mentorship is critical for success in the medical field–even more so as a practice owner. Being able to call/text/email questions regarding a case, practice legalities, or business inquiries saves you time–and who doesn’t need more time?

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have found that showing up in my community and having an online presence has helped build my reputation and clientele. Even if you don’t want to be on social media at least have a website that showcases your accomplishments and/or services. Show up at events–whether that’s Farmer’s Markets, Social Events, or volunteering. It takes practice to talk about yourself and your business, but it will be worth it when your email list grows, you are booked months in advance, and you open your second location.
