We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sean Stynes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sean below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I remember getting handed a cd of Jimi Hendrix live at woodstock at a record store when I was a kid. I had never heard anything like it. I remember it sounding so loud and aggressive. Like i was listening to death metal or something. It blew my mind. And make me feel things i hadnt felt before. Then I had a friend that taught me a few chords on guitar and i just kinda never looked back.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im a musician from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I play guitar and sing in the band PARALLELZ. I would call our music a mix of depression funk, indie rock, and psychedelic pop.
We are currently working on our debut album that comes out July 25th.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I feel like I’m constantly having to relearn that there are no rules when it comes to creativity. Especially when you get into the technical areas of making music.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My only goal is to make the best music I can for myself as the audience. I hope that other people will like it too. I don’t feel like it’s possible for me to make my best work thinking about what other people like though.
