We recently connected with Dr. Michline Brice and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Michline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
While matriculating my PhD, I decided to pursue locs and makeup to help with expenses of school. I always knew I had a creative side, and so wanted to explore more about it. The name I.D.O. Kreationz is made up of an acronym (I am Dznrz (designer’s) Original) Kreationz. It is based on the scripture Ephesians 2:10 ”For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus”.
I suffered with low self esteem as a young child and when starting this business , I asked God why did He give me this gift. Well He responded and told me that while you heal others, I am healing you. So every brush stroke, and loc design is unique. So excited to see what the next 12 years will bring with many more original Kreationz.
Dr. Michline, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by Haitian parents, I was intrigued with becoming a doctor one day. I followed the path of going to college to obtain a BS in biology and continued to push past the storms and obtain my MS in biology with a concentration in Food Science and technology. I continued to pursue school despite the storms of life. I’ve lost many people whom I loved along that journey.
2012, I was faced with past battles of self esteem. I decided to learn how to do my makeup and my growing locs. I got so skilled that people started asking me to experiment on them. Eventually I wanted to cultivate this gift and decided to work at a salon and MAC cosmetics.
I truly loved how God used me to reach people who also suffered with their self esteem. They either leave my chair in tears of joy or a big smile letting me know that they feel so alive with their look. This definitely gave me purpose to know I can transfoem lives with a brush stroke or a comb.
After graduation, I wanted to work for the government, but found that they weren’t hiring. So I used what I had in my hands which were the gifts God gave me. Since 2018, I didn’t look back and decided to become a full entrepreneur.
I love making people feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. With makeup I’ve learned to enhance natural features with a flawless application. With locs, I come up with intricate designs while making sure locs stay healthy in the future.
While living in the DMV, I’m still trying to make a name known for myself. The few that I’ve encountered has made it worthwhile to keep going and trusting God to leave a mark. I’m excited to see new faces on this journey.
Wedding season is faster approaching and I would love to meet some potential brides.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I was relatable. Speaking to my clients, getting to know who they are personally and really being an active listener to their questions and concerns.
I love to educate my clients as well, so cultivating the skills and being knowledgeable on the craft is very important.
Being sure of the work I’ve done clients will tell their friends and family about me. Good reviews of me to strangers became a pillar on how I obtain my audience.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly the word of mouth. I try my hardest to do everything unto God not man so I try to deliver with excellence. I have reviews on My website and of course social media.
