We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matt LeBris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Matt, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In 2018, after numerous years working with Daymond John of Shark Tank, I decided to take a leap of faith and build a plane on the way. Truthfully, the journey hasn’t been easy and that decision was a really, really big one. I was losing my full time, safe, fun, and challenging job that granted me access to a mentor who I viewed as a father figure. But, if I didn’t make that move, if I didn’t take that risk, I wouldn’t have started my podcast, Decoding Success, when I did – maybe not ever, which is scary to think.
While working with Daymond, I had an intern who continued to push me to start a podcast. But, the truth is, I had no time to! To say I was leaving my job with Daymond to start a podcast would be a lie. But, being that I had the time, I said, “Well, this looks like something to do.” Plus, losing my daily mentorship from someone like Daymond sucked. I had to find a way to receive mentorship from individuals I aspire to be like in life. I do that through my podcast, which all comes full circle in regards to the risk I took.

Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a born and raised NY’er who inevitably caught the hustler’s spirit that fills my hometown streets. My experience is wide and far — through college, I worked as an independently contracted event coordinator which yielded me the opportunities to work with 50 Cent, the Jersey Shore cast, Mob Wives, Fetty Wap, and so many more artists. From there, post-grad, I worked with Daymond John of Shark Tank. Now, I host a top 1% globally ranked podcast, Decoding Success, which features the likes of Mel Robbins, Grant Cardone, Gabby Bernstein, and more.
Our podcast was started to help our community members understand that success is defined by themselves — not by society, culture, their parents or a dictionary. We take our listeners on a journey of uncovering the deepest parts of our highly sought-after guests to help them feel seen and heard — giving them areas to resonate with. We skip the cliche questions to get really deep with our guests. In fact, we often get told that they’ve never heard XYZ guest open up the way they did on our show. We take pride in that.
When on your individual journey — pursuing whatever it may be in life — things can get REALLY good but they can also get REALLY dark. We solve the problem of everything in between both of those places in life. We bring a realistic realization to understand that neither the good or bad will last in life, how to navigate both times, and so much more.
Personally, I’m most proud of the individuals that do the work from the advice mentioned by our guests on the show. When I get a message saying, ” hey, XYZ impacted me by saying this and showing me what to do… AND IT’S WORKING!” That lights me up. Sometimes people really just need to hear something that helps them turn things around or helps them get over the hump. It’s so meaningful to me when we get messages like that.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is hyper focused on being a truly in depth interviewer for my podcast, Decoding Success. The reasoning for this is because I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to amplify messages of some of the most sort after individuals in the world — global game changers. And, I believe it’s my calling to not only amplify their messages but to challenge them to dig deeper and share things they’ve never shared before. The motivation behind that is to make an impact in the form of allowing our listenership to resonate with people they look up to on a whole other level.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creator in the podcasting space is pretty simple: receiving a message from someone telling me they listened to an episode. It’s that simple. Often times, that message is followed up with a takeaway from the particular episode, them telling me they listened to numerous in a row, or just generally saying how much the show has made an impact on them. When those moments occur, I take a moment and think to myself… This individual really just dedicated their time to listen to something I created. Out of all the podcasts, they just dedicated their time to choose our show, Decoding Success, as the place they want to receive their mentorship, their wisdom, knowledge and experiences. Like, what?! That’s wild to me. It doesn’t mean I’m undeserving of that. But, it makes me feel so grateful.
