Marlyn, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later

Looking back, there are moments when I wish I had started my business sooner. The feedback and experience I gained from planning various events for family and friends made me realize the potential earlier on. I officially started my business in 2023, when my life and career had evolved significantly. Initially juggling work and young children, by 2023, I had more stability and flexibility working for the district, with a different perspective on life. Starting sooner would have likely led to quicker business growth, but starting later allowed me to develop valuable skills in patience, perseverance, and knowledge. While I may have some regrets about not starting earlier, I now appreciate the journey and the lessons it has brought me.

My name is Marlyn, a Puerto Rican native, residing in Florida. I am a wife and a mother of four boys who loves coordinating events. Being from the island I love to celebrate all types of events. Any fun sales or marketing stories?

One of my favorite marketing experiences was when I took a chance and participated in a Christmas tree decorating event organized by AdventHealth, after receiving an email from my local chamber of commerce. Despite feeling unsure about how to decorate the tree to promote my business, I decided to go for it and put my creativity to the test. I ended up decorating a pine Christmas tree with balloons and received a lot of compliments during the event.

To my surprise, this small marketing effort paid off in a big way. In January of the following year, I was contacted by a marketing specialist who requested a quote for a business grand opening. This specialist also shared my contact information with a multi-event marketer. Within the same week, I was quoting two events for one of the largest hospitals in Florida. This led to me becoming one of their preferred vendors, and I have since completed multiple events for them.

This experience taught me the importance of being proactive and seizing opportunities, even when they seem uncertain. It also showed me the power of networking and making a lasting impression in the business community. By being willing to put in extra effort and take on new challenges, I was able to establish valuable connections and grow my business in ways I never expected. It’s a reminder that sometimes, taking risks and going the extra mile in the early stages of business can lead to long-term success and fruitful collaborations.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients for me has been through my membership in local chambers of commerce. By being a member, I receive weekly emails and monthly newsletters that feature local companies and upcoming events. This has provided me with the perfect opportunity to reach out to potential clients and offer my services to help them celebrate their milestones and future events. Being actively involved in these chambers has allowed me to connect with a diverse range of businesses and establish valuable relationships that have led to new client opportunities. The networking opportunities provided by these chambers have been instrumental in generating new business for me and expanding my client base.
