Nocona, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The moment that changed the trajectory of my sporting career was going to a sport camp near Athen Greece with my father as a boy. It was at this camp where I saw men & other kids my age doing the impossible and was assured I too could be like them with plenty of hard work.
I was told 2 things at the end of the training camp
1. You have the right mind.
2. You have the right body
“Now Train hard and come back next year and i will tell you how far you can go.”
That following year we returned to have me tested.
I made it through the trainings & tests and on the way out the head coach put his arm around me as we walked to our cab and told me quietly “you will be world class”
I believed him.
Nocona, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Kettlebell Sport Athlete & Coach I received my first coaching certificate at 13 and have been competing just as long.
I am the youngest American to achieve the Rank of Master of Sport International Class at 19 and have been fortunate enough to be able to compete around the globe.
I love to teach the sport and see others rise up & overcome past injury’s with intelligent programming and gentle training curves and holistic approaches.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
For victory’s: Taking yourself lightly but your discipline/practice very seriously, always being modest and in the best of times being thankful the conditions of life were right to achieving your own goals.
For failure:
It’s okay to fail, it’s just not okay to quit.
If you fall 13 times, be sure to stand up 14.
Sometimes obsession isn’t enough, you have to give in and let it possess you.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Lead from the front and keep an unfaltering good natured when dealing with the public.
