Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Celina Molina. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Celina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
While going to school for dental assisting, I had an aunt who worked at a dental office in Sunnyvale, CA looking to hire for a dental assistant position. I had just barely started school when she had asked if I was almost done.
I thought that it was such a great job opportunity for me if I decided to take it. Even though I just got into school I had to think about how I would be able to get to point A to point B throughout my week, studying/homework, etc.
I went ahead and accepted the job, with my current school schedule at the time being early morning to about noon, I was able to drive from San Jose to Sunnyvale right after and work until 5:00pm. It worked out perfectly! I was not only working in the field, I was also getting first hand learning experience as well.
I was able to do moderate assisting, room setups, seating patients, stocking, lab tech duties, etc. Once I received my certificate for X-rays I was able to take x-ray images on patients at the office. This definitely helped me practice my techniques and to master the different placements and angulations.
The only difference between learning about the field in school and working in the field is that every office is going to do things differently. The procedures will have different turn outs and doctors have their own ways of treating patients. It was great that I had the opportunity to see both sides.
By the end of school we had to build our resumes and if we didn’t have an office to work at, we had to go through a list of ones that were offering an internship. In my class I was the only one that was already in an office, so I didn’t need to go through that process. Even though I was already working in the office, I still had to treat it as an internship.
It’s been about 11 years now and I am still at my current office. I definitely have many hats now and didn’t realize I would be expanding my duties there. I not only work the back office, I also do most front office duties, maintanance and IT work. I have learned so much throughout the many years being there and still continue to learn.
I love my job and the office I am at; including my doctor, all staff (current and those no longer there), and of course the patients. We see about 3 generations of patients and we have built such great relationships with them, including their trust.
Celina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Celina Molina and my business is Sweet Essential Living LLC. I am a wife, mom of two, registered dental assistant, essential oils wellness advocate and permanent jewelry tech.
Ever since I became a mom, I wanted to incorporate more natural solutions in our home. I was concerned with the amount of chemicals there are and may have access to. I wanted to eliminate them to keep my son safe from getting a hold on those that can harm him.
I had started using natural products with essential oils but then was introduced to doTERRA by a good friend that I had danced with a while back. She showed me the quality and purity of their oils/products, how doTERRA then the business opportunity that I can build with my own time. For about 4.5 years, I have been using and selling doTERRA products but also my own blends as topical rollers, mists, diffuser blends, oil accessories, etc.
In addition to my part time job as a RDA, I make time in between work and my two kids to build my business. doTERRA’s essential oils and supplements has helped me and my family with minor and major health concerns or to prevent or maintain our health and wellness. Especially that doTERRA’s essential oils are CPTG (certified pure tested grade) which makes it safe for topical, aromatic, and internal (as long as they state supplemental facts in the bottles) use. You still have to consider the safety when using oils; making sure no specific allergies by doing patch tests or using the right amount of oil to carrier oil especially for those who have sensitivities (babies, toddlers and elderly).
With myself and my team, we teach essential oil/natural solution classes via Zoom or in person to educate the health and wellness benefits that oils can aid with health focuses or concerns. We do consults with those who have a few to several health concerns and help pair oils to help aid in healing.
To make new connections, I also reach out to family, friends, those on social media such as Instagram or in person at popups/makers markets. This business has given me not only additional income but new relationships with those who have the same interest in a natural lifestyle.
On top of my essential oil business, I recently became a permanent jewelry tech to provide an additional service when I do popups/makers markets. This service consists of permanently welding chains (full gold, gold filled, and sterling silver) by “zapping” a welding spark with a machine.
There are many styles of chains to choose from and charms or connectors to add to them. You can also get creative by doing multi style chains and multiple types of charms to your liking. Basic ways to style your chain can be a ring, bracelet, anklet, or necklace. Some may ask for hand chains or earrings as well.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Making connections and with multiple platforms. Whether it is social media or in person making small talk or full on conversations. You can make new clients or even friends by just being you and finding something in common.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Whether it is at the dental office, at a market/popup, or even on a zoom class. Understanding the patient or customer and their needs. It is all about what you can do to help them and their needs. I want to be someone they can trust and get support from.
