We recently connected with Patrick “pH” Hampton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patrick “pH” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I love this question. Early in my career I thought, get the agent, get the manager, and then I am secure to work. “I’ve made it”. What I didn’t know was so much more. I feel the understanding of what an agent and manger are is quite convoluted. Now… working with them from many markets in many facets.
After a hiatus, I am looking to rebuild my team. For years I was blessed to be supported by my mother as a business partner as I was able to look for opportunities and being able to build my first portfolio. Taking chance that wouldn’t pay to secure my now but a big potential to open up the future. This knowledge earned me a lone wolf ability. Having a handful of mangers and agents along the way. Truthfully, as I look back. I wasn’t prepared to work with them. Still, I understand why they were so interested. You have to do the work. Prepare you portfolio and sales preparations. Know where and how to get the work.
I’m in the blessed position to develop my own work with much interest. As, I have an Oscar Nominated Producer developing the work at my pace. This was earned by training, networking, and volunteering with legends in the culture. Names that you might not necessarily know but names that if you work in the business you most likely came across. Earning “badges” through the culture. I don’t care to audition and have found most of my work to comes as referrals.
An agent is someone who acts on behalf of another person or group. They don’t help develop talent. They act to facilitate work. If they believe they can facilitate work with what you bring. They will want to work with you.
The way you handle YOUR business is your own. Your team will reflect that. Understand there are specialist who know how to get any job done. They will want to work with you if they think you can get or make them more than they have.

Patrick “pH”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the heir of the Makaveli movement. Yes, Tupac’s movement. Adopted into the West Coast (NWA) tree by Blaqtoven and Bad Azz (RIP). Supposedly, Pac was planning to meetup them in the studio before that fated Vegas night the next session. This is where I was cultivated as an Artist. I’m working on music and developing my debut indie feature film film about Johnny Hurley. “The Olde Town Good Samaritan”, which is a promise I made him randomly.
Blessed by lessons from legends of their crafts. My advice has been used across the Entertainment industry. I consider myself as an Artist and Consultant. I’m simply a sponge and love to learn. I’ve spent countless hours analyzing and practicing my craft and abilities. Earning recognition in many different arena’s along the way. From screenwriting, modeling, acting, performance, and even business. While networking had some amazing conversations with some very impactful people.
If you know, you know. I feel like many might look at me like a Tesla in our community. As, my mentors have granted me unwavering respect. While others who are blindly ambitious look at me as another fool in the way. This is the curse of a Heyoka.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn was thinking the people would lead to the success. You practice will always be the superior attraction to the people. The work and quality of work are what matter. Not what people think. If you can get it displayed properly and continue to grow at your own pace. Before you know it. You’ll be getting introduced to the future Vice President of the United States of America and one of your childhood heroes at the same time.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
They are a brilliant invention. I do find the gains at the elementary art is kinda asinine and it still haven’t found it’s proper place in it’s innate abilities. Where I think it will soon. Every artist should be venturing down this field.
To have a ledger of transactions if a brilliant idea. It proves a value of trade and impact of time on valuations. This is why art and stories if they have the ability transcend reality.
