Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Throughout my musical development, I’ve loved “Heavy” Music. Bands like Black Sabbath, Coroner, And Death. I have always been interested in creating a Heavy Instrumental band however, because I play the saxophone there was always pushback from potential bands within that style. Saxophone, Oboe, and Flute aren’t traditionally seen as “Heavy” and I’m gonna show the world one show at a time how “Heavy” they can be.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think as human beings we have difficulties understanding each other in general. That being said, we are all different and misunderstanding is to be expected. This is the case with culture and art. I believe art is meant to be consumed and digested through the lens of the individual. The way I hear, see, feel, smell, and touch the world is different from the way another person does. The way you interact with art will also be different. As long as we all keep an open mind and listen, any misconceptions about my art or anyone elses will go away.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion what society is doing currently is correct. The way we as a society interact with art is a reflection of current events. Developments in technology, culture, and every other aspect of society has changed the way we interact with art. The way we consume art will continue to change with time. My best advice is to listen to what you like and go check out the artists live. Interacting with artists via the Internet is cool but, it is not the same as interacting with them in person. Whether we are talking about a live concert, comedy show, play, or an art exhibit.
