We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ellie Curry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ellie below.
Alright, Ellie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
There is a percentage of women who exist but fly under the radar. The quiet ones, the wallflowers, and they believe they have to become someone they aren’t in order to be confident. They scroll social media in comparison. They judge and plead with themselves to finally change. To finally live up to the expectations they hold of themselves but seem to never be able to reach. They are creative and funny but only show their light to a small group of select people because they are afraid. They live with the fear that they will never be good enough.
My mission with my company is to reach these women and help them reconnect with themselves with kindness and compassion. To embrace who they are and learn that the belief they hold about not being good enough doesn’t have to run their lives. That to build true lasting confidence they need to embrace themselves fully!
I was this girl, growing up always being good, following the rules, never straying from the path laid out in front of me. Molding myself to be who I thought people wanted me to be instead of nurturing the person I was. I thought that if I could just try harder, achieve more, look prettier, and have the perfect boyfriend then I would finally achieve the happiness I was craving. The love I was desperate for. But I realized through a ten-year confidence journey piecing together everything I would need to learn is that confidence is never about external validation the love I was craving most was from myself.
Ellie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I launched my company in 2019 after becoming certified as a life coach in 2018. My confidence journey started in 2014 when I was struggling with depression and wasn’t sure how to make it through it. I remember waking up one morning, looking in the mirror, and asking myself “Who are you?” I had become so unaligned with myself I didn’t even recognize myself. So I took to Google and started by Googling “how to have confidence.” I started to piece together all the information I would need to build lasting confidence.
After years of studying, applying, and working on myself I developed a signature framework that helps other women work on their confidence. Learning how to embrace and love themselves for who they are. After a couple of years of focusing on life coaching, I started to transform my signature framework into workbooks. I am now developing courses, workbooks, digital planners, and meditations to help women through each stage of their confidence journey.
The main problem I help my clients with is ending their judgment loops. The endless loop that keeps them stuck believing they are not good enough. I help them understand their personal cycle – what triggers the cycle, what expectations they are trying to live up to, what their inner critic sounds like, and how to start treating themselves with kindness to disrupt the cycle.
All I wanted at the beginning of my journey was a framework or road map to help me achieve lasting confidence and I am really proud that I was able to design that for other women.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell my products through multiple platforms.
Amazon – I manufacture my workbooks through Amazon KDP which makes them available on Amazon. This is a nice platform for random people to find my products. I never have to promote the Amazon platform. It lives in the background selling for me. The only downside is not being able to have any information about the clients that purchased – they can’t be added to my email list etc.
TikTok Shop – This has become a nice source of income for selling my workbooks. So far I have only sold physical products in the shop and I am not sure if digital products can be added yet. It does link to my website’s back end which is nice, but they do not give you client’s email addresses. So you can’t continue a relationship with the clients unless using the app.
Personal Website – This platform I have the most control over, but I also am in charge of shipping. But it is nice to connect with clients, they are able to be added to my newsletter, and I am able to send personalized notes with each shipment!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The two books I will always return to are It’s Not Always Depression by Hilary Jacobs Hendel and The Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer.
It’s Not Always Depression by Hilary Jacobs Hendel is an incredible book that helps explain human emotions. Which as business owners can come up a lot especially when feeling overwhelmed.
The Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer is an incredible book that helps explain thought patterns and how our mindset creates our reality. This book blows my mind every time I read it (which is yearly)!
