Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blankslate. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Blankslate, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our debut album is coming out this summer, and it’s by far the most meaningful project we’ve worked on together as a band — and as friends! The 12 songs on the album were written and recorded over the last year and include themes of unrequited love, cultivating independence, and transitioning. We’ve grown closer than ever while recording this album and we can’t wait to share it with everyone! We’ve been playing the songs live for almost a year and have been thrilled by the response!
Blankslate, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Blankslate was formed in 2019 by college roommates Emma Troughton (vocals; they/them), Tess Condron (drums/keys; she/her) and Rylee Dunn (guitar/bass; she/her). Our goal is to combine vivid storytelling with unique musical pockets and hopefully create music that reaches people at some core level. We also love playing super energetic live shows and reimagining our songs in a live setting. We would love readers to follow us over the next few months as we play shows around the Denver Metro Area to promote our upcoming debut album!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Whenever we hear from someone that one of our songs resonates with them, thats a huge reward. We’ve heard from people in states we’ve never been to that they listen to our songs every day, and that’s like the most incredible feeling. We just hope people get something out of our music.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Come to shows! Buy physical releases! The extra effort always makes a huge difference.
