Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Street. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
After months of planning and dreaming we quit our jobs on May 1st, 2018 and opened Oasis Plant Shop on June 1st, 2018. Our first store on 7th street in the Bishop Arts District will always have a special place in our hearts. It was an old, open air garage but with some love and plants we created a beautiful jungle. After a crazy turn of events we needed to move out of that space. That’s when we found our serendipitous “Green House.” Just one street over from our first location, Oasis Plant Shop reopened on March 1st, 2019. We’ve been slinging plants on 8th street ever since. We hope you come visit!
Hannah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At our core we are plant lovers. We value the beautiful creation around us, and the power that plants bring to our lives. After a combined 12 years of experience working in the plant industry we felt the need to create a new approach to plant shopping. Unlike the traditional plant nursery, we offer an approachable environment with a boutique feel and hands on customer service. Our mission is to create lasting relationships in our community to help them create their own living oasis. We desire to bring new growth and life into the concrete jungle we live in through living plants, whether indoor or outdoor, specialty or familiar.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Bethany applied to work with me, Hannah at a local plant nursery where I was the pottery buyer. Bethany became manger of the garden shop and our partnership really took off! We left that nursery 6 years ago now to open our own Plant store together, Oasis Plant Shop!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic Bethany and I created an online platform and started selling plants online one week after everything was shut down. We worked the shop by ourselves and offered plant sidewalk pick up. Never in a million years did we think we would be selling plants online but we pivoted and because of that we were able to open our doors back up to the public that summer!
