To be successful, I believe it takes a combination of effective communication, networking, and public speaking skills. These skills have opened more doors for me than any degree ever could. Despite having a Public High School diploma instead of a traditional college degree, I’ve been fortunate to speak and conduct workshops for reputable organizations like Chick-fil-A, Spectrum Reach, Comerica Bank, First United Bank, Chamber Of Commerce, and more.
My journey to success has been shaped by my experiences and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of effective communication. Whether it’s conveying ideas, building relationships, or inspiring others, the ability to communicate effectively is essential in every aspect of life.
Networking has also played a crucial role in my success. Building and nurturing relationships with others has opened doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and partnerships. Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards; it’s about building genuine connections and adding value to others’ lives.
Lastly, public speaking has been a cornerstone of my success. Being able to articulate ideas, engage audiences, and inspire action through public speaking has been instrumental in advancing my career and spreading my message. The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been speaking engagements. Let me take you back to the summer of June 2013. Picture this: I’m facing $97K in debt, bankruptcy, and a credit score that could use some serious improvement. I’m crashing in my sister’s game room in Sherwood, AR, sleeping on an air mattress that’s seen better days. But one morning, amidst the aroma of sizzling bacon downstairs, something shifted.
My then-girlfriend, Wendy Gooden Williams, now my wife, woke beside me on that lumpy air mattress and uttered words that changed everything: ‘Your setback is a setup to come back. So I’ve got your back, babe. It’s time to get back on your feet.’ And just like that, despite the challenges (including my car being repossessed!), I found my footing again.
