We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Pfister. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I started my business with my sister back in 2012 with zero dollars, my sister’s loft and a cheap camera. We had no idea how to run a business, we just did it. Since I started this with someone (my sister) I have always had someone else’s livelihood on my shoulders so failure was never an option.
We put so much hard work into our business. We tried so many different things. Some worked, some did not. I have experienced many failures over the years and I contribute my “lessons learned” to my success. You have to try, take risks, fail, dust off and truck on. You cannot move forward without falling once or twice. My hard lessons that I learned over the years pushed me to success.
Fear is something that should be embraced. If you aren’t scared, you are doing something wrong.
Embrace the fear. Push forward and succeed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a boudoir photographer and own The Adore Girls in Nashville, Tennessee. I started my studio with my baby sister back in 2012. We fell into boudoir a little by accident, fell in love with it and decided this is what we want to exclusively specialize in.
Being a boudoir photographer is an honor. I get to work with women from all over the country providing them with so much more than just beautiful images they will forever love. Boudoir Photography is something women do to create a special gift for their significant other HOWEVER, it can be so much more than that.
It can honestly be life changing for some women. They get to see themselves in a whole new light. A boudoir session can give a woman herself back. Rebuild their confidence. Empower them. Redefine how they see themselves. Some of our clients have been in abusive relationships, coming out of a nasty divorce or have some old trauma they are trying to deal with and this can show them that they are beautiful and strong.
A boudoir session is a very vulnerable experience and can shed light for women showing them they are beautiful just the way they are. In today’s society we are bombarded on a daily basis with ads, videos, social media etc etc. telling women how their bodies are supposed to look, how they are supposed to be and it is utter nonsense. Women can get caught up in that and think that there is something wrong with them, or they need to lose weight, or they need to augment their bodies in some way. A boudoir session basically raises the middle finger to this nonsense and shows women that are INDEED perfect just the way they are.
It’s truly one of the best jobs in the world.

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
Back in 2014 I got ahead of myself and made some poor business decisions. Well, they were not horrible ideas/decisions, I just made them at the wrong time. That put me in a financial pickle and I was about to have to pay payroll with a credit card or make some tough decisions.
That is when I sat down and REALLY learned my business. I learned all my numbers. What I needed, what I was spending, etc. I was so in over my head. I revamped my entire business model and pushed forward. The next year I raised my gross revenue by 245% and doubled my profit. It was game on from there.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When we started back in 2012, we had no idea what we were doing. We were just two sisters with a love of photography. One thing that we have always done and I think contributes to our great reputation in our industry and with our clients was, we were ALWAYS ourselves. We never put a persona on to be anything else than ourselves and that speaks volumes. Every client that has ever walked in our studio we have treated like an old friend that we haven’t seen for 10 years. Every event we do, every client interaction, every educational event I speak at, I am always 100% myself. On social media we are completely ourselves. I am not good at the professional jargon, never have been. It makes me feel very unauthentic. So I just don’t do it. I talk to everyone no matter what it is or where I am like an old friend.
