My hope is that my legacy reflects a life dedicated to making a positive impact on others and the world around me. I aspire to leave behind a legacy of compassion, innovation, and empowerment. Whether through my professional endeavors, personal relationships, or philanthropic efforts, I strive to inspire and uplift those I encounter. Ultimately, I want to be remembered as someone who contributed to a greater good, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and meaningful change.

Certainly! My name is LaStar Jackson, and I’m the founder and creative director of Saint Avenue, a lifestyle brand based in Indianapolis. My journey into the world of design began over a decade ago, fueled by a passion for creativity and storytelling.

At Saint Avenue, we’re more than just a brand – we’re a movement. Our mission is to use intentional design and storytelling to connect with our audience on a deeper level. It hasn’t been an easy road building this brand independently, but I’ve been committed to investing profits from previous projects and ventures back into Saint Avenue to fuel its evolution and expansion.

What sets Saint Avenue apart is our dedication to representing individuals with high morals and values who are striving toward a purpose larger than themselves. Our brand stands for authenticity, integrity, and progress. Through our work, we aim to educate, provoke thought, and inspire the next generation of creatives to make a positive impact.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me, the most rewarding aspect is the process of bringing an idea to life. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about seeing a mere thought or concept transformed into tangible reality through my creative expression. It’s a deeply gratifying experience that resonates on multiple levels, from the initial spark of inspiration to the final creation. Witnessing the evolution of an idea and witnessing its impact on others is truly a beautiful and rewarding journey.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

For sure. One aspect of the creative journey that non-creatives might struggle to understand is the constant battle with self-doubt and uncertainty. As creatives, we often pour our hearts and souls into our work, and it can be incredibly vulnerable to put our creations out into the world for judgement.

The creative process itself can be nonlinear and unpredictable, filled with highs and lows. Non-creatives might not fully comprehend the emotional rollercoaster that comes with the pursuit of creative expression, from the exhilarating moments of inspiration to the frustrating periods of creative block.

There’s a misconception that creativity is innate and effortless, when in reality, it often requires dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Non-creatives might underestimate the discipline and resilience required to consistently produce meaningful and impactful work.

Overall, I believe shedding light on these aspects of the creative journey can foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the challenges and triumphs that creatives encounter along the way.
